We are excited to announce our "Discover Historic Chihuahua Street" project. The first of these unique markers was unveiled today. Adding to our excitement were the THREE generations of descendants who were present for the unveiling! This first marker highlights Hermann Suhre (1842-1913), owner of the Suhre Store, built in the 1880s. His great-granddaughter, Ann Makris, his great-great-granddaughter, Jennifer Wildenstein, and his great-great-great-grandson, Jake Wildenstein, did the unveiling!

If you would like to donate to this project or be a Sponsor for one of the markers, just let us know.

Additional markers will continue to be added at historical sites along Chihuahua Street. Please watch here and in the La Vernia News for more information, history, and updates. Better yet, join us today! - laverniahistory.com.

LVISD is joining forces with the La Vernia Police Department on a new safety initiative called Cops on a Bus!

This interactive program is designed to help keep our students safe at school and on bus routes by promoting regular safety training and familiarity with officers from the LVPD and the Wilson County Precinct 3 Constables’ Office. LVPD officers and constables will ride La Vernia ISD buses with students on a variety of routes throughout the school year. Students will be able to ask accompanying officers questions about law enforcement, get to know their School Resource Officers (SROs), and learn safety and security tips that they can follow and encourage their classmates to adopt as well!

Click here to read more about the Cops on a Bus program and our ongoing commitment to the safety and security of every La Vernia ISD student: http://bit.ly/33cPRV7.
