The descendant tree in Olympia is clearly marked and easy to visit. Dedicated in 1961 outside the Lord Mansion (211 21st Avenue), then the State Capital Museum, the tree honors Charles Tallmadge Conover, a Seattle journalist, writer and historian. He coined the state's "Evergreen State" nickname.

Seattle historian Paul Dorpat spent decades helping us see our city in new ways through his beloved “Now & Then” column.

Join us this Sunday, August 30, at MOHAI for a public memorial celebrating Paul’s life and legacy. The evening begins at 6:30 pm, with the program starting promptly at 7 pm. Lots of Programs and Exhibits including a table for Olympia-Lacey Amtrak Station Volunteers! Mark your calendar for Sept. 8 at the Lacey Community Center, 3-7 p.m. Included is a display table featuring the history of our Olympia-Lacey Amtrak Depot from Tenino to Woodland (Lacey) Depot, to "Amshack" (Pictured) to our 33-year old building where Volunteers meet 14 trains/day..
