For Police Week, A4S has the privilege of honoring these DoW Law Enforcement Award Nominees:
Investigation of the Year Nominee: 82nd Security Forces Squadron (AETC)
On May 5, 2025, the 82nd SFS conducted a multi-jurisdictional operation to rescue a kidnapped minor who had been forcibly transported across state lines to Sheppard Air Force Base by an Airman in technical school. After being alerted by police, the unit launched a base-wide search, quickly locating the suspect's vehicle. An interview with the perpetrator yielded the victim's exact location. A tactical team was dispatched and successfully secured the minor. The comprehensive evidence collected by investigators resulted in a life sentence for the perpetrator.
John Awtrey Civilian Police Officer Award Nominee: Mr. Brian McCullough (AETC)
As Operations Manager, Lieutenant Brian McCullough guided an 86-member team through two active shooter incidents and two bomb threats. His leadership was pivotal during a national kidnapping response, where he integrated three external agencies to apprehend a violent criminal and rescue the victim. Furthermore, he co-created an innovative defense plan that reclaimed 21 security posts, freeing up critical manpower. His most lasting contribution was securing full Peace Officer Standards and Training credentials for his unit, institutionalizing a higher standard of professionalism and law enforcement expertise.
John Awtrey Military Police Officer Award Nominee: Tech. Sgt. Dakota Bolton (AETC)
As Flight Sergeant, Tech. Sgt. Dakota Bolton took decisive command during a national child abduction, integrating multiple investigative teams to apprehend an Airman who had kidnapped a minor. He led the high-risk arrest, then immediately pivoted the operation to a search and rescue. His leadership and rapid re-tasking of all personnel led to the victim's safe recovery. Bolton's meticulous evidence collection was crucial in securing a life-sentence for the perpetrator.
