FOSTER FRIDAY: Junie 🩷
A124625

Junie’s story is one of those that reminds us why foster homes matter.

She came to our shelter as a stray around Christmas, scared, unsure, and battling heartworm disease at just 5 months old. Today, she is healthy, heartworm negative, and a completely different dog.

With time, patience, and a foster family willing to believe in her, Junie has found her courage. She’s gone from a suspicious little grumbler to a happy, cuddly, playful girl who LOVES her people.

She may still bark or grumble when meeting strangers, but once Junie decides you’re hers, you’re EVERYTHING to her. She’ll follow you around the house, curl up beside you, ride in the car, play with her toys, and celebrate your return like you’ve been gone for years.

At just over a year old and around 35 pounds, Junie is perfectly petite and packed with personality. She’s house, kennel and potty trained, dog, kid and cat friendly, knows her basic commands, and is surprisingly tolerant of baths, nail trims and even vet visits.

Junie went from a scared stray to a healthy, happy, deeply loved girl. Now she just needs the final chapter of her rags-to-riches story: a forever home.

She’s available for a meet and greet, sleepover or adoption. Please keep in mind, having other pups in the home is a MUST for Junie.

Could you be Junie’s person? Call 985-871-4513 to set up your visit!

Thank you!

🐾 Another Paws of Hope Box is officially installed! 🐾

We’re so grateful to the St. Tammany Parish Department of Animal Services for partnering with us and giving us a spot to place a Paws of Hope Pet Food Box at your location and for the compassion and care you provide to animals in need every day. 💚💛💜

Paws of Hope is truly a community effort, from those who donate and help keep our boxes stocked, to the organizations that give them a home. Together, we’re helping make sure our community’s fur babies aren’t forgotten when families are going through difficult times.

A special thank you to Richard Mohatt for building and installing this beautiful box for our community pets. 🐾❤️

Take what you need. Leave what you can. 🫶

Thank you Mardi Paws for giving our community a place to remember our four legged friends. 🙂❤️🐾

Every tag on this bridge represents somebody’s best friend 🌈🐾

Tucked beneath the trees in Lacombe, Louisiana, a small memorial bridge has become a special place for families remembering beloved pets. In just two years, more than 600 collars and tags have been added — some by local visitors and others sent from families across the country.

The Lacombe Rainbow Bridge was created by Mardi Paws/Scott's Wish with support from St. Tammany Parish Animal Services. It was inspired by the original Rainbow Bridge at Lake Lure, North Carolina, where families left collars, tags and tributes to pets they had lost.

What started as a quiet place for remembrance has grown into something much bigger. Families continue to visit, add tags and spend a few moments among hundreds of names — each one honoring an animal who was deeply loved.

🚨 EMERGENCY FOSTERS NEEDED FOR OUR RESCUE PARTNER, WAFFLES WAY HOME 🚨

Our friends at Waffles Way Home are in urgent need of help after a bat infestation forced them to remove all of the cats from their center. They currently have 6 long-term residents who need emergency foster placement as soon as possible.

All of these cats are 6+ months old, fully vaccinated, and ready to temporarily crash with a safe family while the rescue works through this unexpected situation. 🐾❤️

Waffles Way Home is a newer rescue that is still building and growing, but they have already stepped up and helped our shelter and animals so much. Their owner is incredibly sweet, genuine, and truly dedicated to saving animals, and we want to do everything we can to help this partnership succeed.

If you are able to open your home to one of these cats, even temporarily, please reach out to Waffles Way Home directly. If fostering isn’t possible, sharing this post could help connect them with someone who can.

Let’s show up for the rescues who show up for our animals. 🤍🐱

We are proud to announce a total of 150 adoptions happened during the month of August! This doesn't include the many other lucky animals that left our shelter on Sleepover, so cross your fingers those have a happy ending as well! Thank you to everyone who fostered or adopted and a huge shout out to our special rescue partners that are always looking out for our shelter pets needing other avenues to find a home. 🌟ADOPTION SPOTLIGHT: TURKEY🌟

We promise this isn’t just a holiday-themed name… Turkey is one sweetheart worth gobbling up!

Turkey originally came to us as a stray back in February at about a year old. She absolutely aced her behavior evaluation, earning an almost perfect score, and a few months later, she found what we all hoped would be her forever home. Sometimes, though, life has other plans. Turkey is now with a foster family while we help her find the home that’s the perfect fit for her. And let us tell you, this girl is one special bird!

Turkey is sweet, affectionate, playful, and VERY interested in whatever her people are doing. She loves other dogs, enjoys meeting people, and is a professional cuddler. She’s crate trained, loves lounging on the couch with a toy, and would happily upgrade to sleeping in your bed if you let her!

She’s also bright, clever, gorgeous, and full of personality. She’s still working on perfecting her potty training, but she’s made tremendous progress and is ready for someone who will continue helping her learn. Turkey would love a family with a home and yard where she can get plenty of attention, playtime, cuddles and, of course, snacks.

Don’t let this Turkey get cold! She’s ready to find the family where she can finally roost for good. Come meet Turkey and see if she might just be the one you’ve been searching for. Call 985-871-4513 if interested!

🥹 Cue the "awwwwwww"s!

Meet Salem (A110762), a 4-year-old feline that doesn't deserve to be in the shelter once, let alone twice! Salem, originally named Alice as a kitten, came to us as a 3-4 week old stray, found alone. We were able to get her into a foster home, who then quickly decided to adopt! Sadly last month, her owner passed and Animal Control was called to pick her and her two canine siblings up. Now, Salem is hoping for a fresh start and to break out of here once again!

We were actually relieved to provide some much-needed veterinary care to Salem, as she came to us dehydrated and with almost a complete lack of fur due to a flea infestation. Once the fleas were gone and our vet did her magic, we quickly started noticing Salem's scaly skin start to calm and new fur started growing back. Her coat is still thin and it may never go back to what it was in her prime, but with a personality like hers - she's going to have no problem catching someone's eye!

Salem is beyond sweet. Dare we say she will spoil YOU rotten! She is a love bug who is almost aggressive with the head butts for attention 😅 She gives little kisses, rubs herself all over your lap and when she's done, you can find her in her favorite wicker bed in our Cat Cabin!

Please stop by and meet Salem 💙🩵 Visit: Adoption Hours are Monday-Saturday 10AM-4PM @ 31078 LA-36, Lacombe, LA 70445 | Email: [email protected] | Call: 985-871-4513
