Last week, the Marshall County Sheriff’s Office partnered with OSF ThinkFirst and Fieldcrest Middle School to provide an educational course focused on the safe and lawful operation of bicycles and electric transportation.

The course emphasized the importance of understanding and following the rules of the road while operating bicycles and other electric transportation. Students were educated on how to safely navigate roadways, recognize traffic laws, and understand their responsibilities as riders.

A program also focused on the legal requirements and age restrictions associated with operating e-bikes, e-scooters, e-mopeds, and e-motorcycles. Deputies and safety educators highlighted how these regulations are designed to protect both riders and the public.

Parents of children with e-bikes, e-scooters, e-mopeds, and e-motorcycles are encouraged to visit the micromobility guide available at rideillinois.org as well as the applicable Illinois Statutes (625 ILCS 5/11-1517 and 1518) for a clear and concise breakdown of the legal requirements.
