Child Advocacy Center of Belknap County

Child Advocacy Center of Belknap County The GLCAC is dedicated to helping victims of child abuse and their families.

The Greater Lakes Child Advocacy Center (GLCAC) was founded in 2005, as the culmination of a two-year collaborative effort between DCYF, law enforcement, prosecutors, victim advocates, mental health professionals, medical professionals and other committed community members in Belknap County. The Greater Lakes Child Advocacy Center seeks to effectively intervene on multiple levels to help end sexua

l and physical violence against children in our community:
•We seek to reduce the trauma to children by avoiding multiple interviews of children, and by providing a neutral, physically and psychologically safe place for children to report abuse.
•We seek to support non-offending parents and families by providing on-site crisis intervention and support and by linking families with needed services.
•We seek to improve investigations of child abuse cases through multi-disciplinary teamwork.
•We seek to hold more offenders accountable with forensically sound interviews and effective, timely investigations, that will lead to increased confessions, prosecutions, and convictions.
•We seek to improve the system’s response to child abuse by providing on-going in-service trainings for local professionals.
•We seek to promote growth of public awareness of child abuse (recognition, reporting and prevention), and to promote growth of community resources for effective responses to child abuse through our Community Outreach Campaign.

It's hard to believe, but October is sneaking up on us already!
Whether Beards or Blue, the mission has always been the same—supporting kids in our communities.
..And can we just PAWS for a moment to admire these adorable members of last year's Paw Patrol?

When we asked forensic interviewers, "What do you hope every child experiences in their forensic interview?" their responses spoke volumes about the heart they bring to this work. 💙

Every forensic interviewer brings something unique to this role, but they all share one purpose: helping children feel safe, heard, and supported.

Hear what makes this job unlike any other, in their own words.

07/17/2026

Forensic interviewing is the foundation of the Child Advocacy Center model, but unless you’ve encountered the work firsthand, you may not really know what a forensic interviewer does.

So, who better to explain it than some of our own Forensic Interviewers?

“How would you describe the role of a forensic interviewer to someone unfamiliar with the work?”

07/10/2026

Forensic interviewers create space for children to share their experiences in their own words.

National Forensic Interviewers Week seemed like the perfect time to create space for forensic interviewers to share theirs, too.

The most logical place to start?
“What does being a forensic interviewer at a CAC mean to you?”

The first answer we received:
“It means I can help.” — Nicole Ledoux

School's out and summer is here! ☀️

As kids prepare for a summer at home, or head off to camps, vacations, and summer activities, trusted adults—from parents and grandparents to camp counselors, coaches, family friends, and mentors—play an important role in helping them feel safe, supported, and connected. Sometimes, quality time and a listening ear are the most important things we can offer.

Wishing everyone a fun, safe, and memorable summer!

Working in direct service, whether at a CAC or in another role, requires compassion, patience, dedication, and resilience. When your work requires that level of effort, it can be easy to forget to take time for yourself.

But self-care isn’t a luxury—it’s necessary. And it doesn’t have to be time-consuming to make a difference.

Quick At-Work Tip: Set an alarm if you need to and take several short, 2–5 minute breaks throughout the day to stretch, breathe deeply, or walk away from your desk to reset your nervous system.

What's your best self-care tip?

Healing looks different for everyone, and there is no set timeline.

But when support is available early, children are better able to process, cope, and move forward.

That’s the power of timely care and co-located services. 💚

05/21/2026

Trauma-informed care isn’t just what we do—it’s how we do it.

It means creating spaces where children feel safe, supported, and in control so they can process and begin to heal.
