What an incredible evening at Spring Valley’s National Night Out!

Hope had an amazing time meeting so many wonderful kids, families, and community members. She loved every belly rub, ear scratch, and hug she received! It was amazing to see her interact with so many kids that have been scared of dogs because of bad experiences such as being attacked/bitten or never being around a dog. Barriers were broke and it was amazing to give these kids some confidence back on petting a dog.

It has been incredible to watch her growth, and we are truly seeing her training pay off. Her calm demeanor, confidence, and ability to interact with large crowds continue to improve with every community event. We couldn’t be more proud of the progress she is making.

A huge thank you to everyone who stopped by to visit Hope, shared kind words, purchased merchandise, or asked how they could support our therapy dog program. Your encouragement means more than you know.

As a reminder, Hope is funded entirely through generous donations from our community. Taxpayer dollars are not used for her food, veterinary care, grooming, equipment, insurance, training, or outreach supplies.

We are currently looking for businesses or individuals who would like to sponsor merchandise giveaways for our meet-and-greets, school visits, and community outreach events. We are also always grateful for those who would like to become donors to help provide for Hope’s ongoing care and training. First and foremost, we want to extend a very special thank you to Officer Sammi Sarosinski. This event would not have been possible without her countless hours of planning, organizing, and dedication. From the very beginning, she poured her heart into making the Hope 5K a reality. Her passion for the Hope Therapy Dog Program and for serving our community was evident every step of the way, and we are incredibly grateful for everything she did to make this event a success.

To everyone who came out to run, walk, volunteer, sponsor, donate, or simply cheer on participants thank you from the bottom of our hearts. Seeing so many families, friends, businesses, and community members come together in support of the Hope Therapy Dog Program was truly inspiring.

Hope is much more than a therapy dog. She is a source of comfort during difficult moments, a friendly face for children who may be experiencing fear or trauma, a calming presence for victims, and a bridge that strengthens the relationship between law enforcement and the communities we proudly serve throughout the Illinois Valley. Whether she’s visiting schools, libraries, nursing homes, community events, or assisting during times of crisis, Hope reminds people that compassion is one of the greatest tools we have.

Because of your support, Hope can continue providing comfort, encouragement, and healing to those who need it most. Every registration, donation, sponsorship, and word of encouragement helps ensure this program continues to grow and reach more people across our communities.

As this was our very first Hope 5K, we know there are things we can improve. We sincerely appreciate everyone’s patience and understanding as we learned along the way. Your kindness, flexibility, and positive attitudes made this event an overwhelming success, and we’ve already taken notes on how to make next year’s race even better.

The Ladd Police Department has received reports of a group of individuals walking through neighborhoods late Sunday evening into the early morning hours on Monday attempting to enter parked vehicles.

We are asking all residents to:
🔹 Check your vehicles for any missing items.
🔹 Review any home security or doorbell camera footage from that time period for suspicious activity.
🔹 Ensure your vehicles are locked and remove valuables from plain sight.

If you discover anything has been stolen or if your cameras captured suspicious individuals or activity, please contact the Ladd Police Department. Even if nothing was taken, video footage could provide valuable information to assist with the investigation.

Your vigilance and cooperation are greatly appreciated as we work to identify those responsible and keep our community safe.

E-bikes and e-scooters are becoming more popular every day, and it's important that both adults and kids understand the rules of the road before they ride. Starting January 1, 2027 new rules are coming to Illinois for E-bikes and E-scooters.

Parents play a key role in teaching safe riding habits. Taking a few minutes to learn the laws together can help prevent crashes, injuries, and costly citations. Riders should know where they can legally ride, age requirements, speed limits, and the importance of obeying traffic signs and signals.

Safety starts with simple habits:
✅ Wear a properly fitted helmet.
✅ Stay off streets and sidewalks where prohibited.
✅ Be visible with lights and reflective gear.
✅ Keep your eyes on the road—no phones while riding.
✅ Follow the same traffic laws that apply to bicycles.

📚🐾 Today, Hope and I had a wonderful time visiting the Ladd Public Library for a special meet-and-greet and reading event!

We spent time with the kids talking about the important role therapy dogs play in our community and how they provide comfort, support, and positive interactions with people of all ages. We also discussed the difference between police therapy dogs and police narcotic/apprehension K-9s. The kids learned how police K-9s are specially trained to assist officers in many different situations.

Hope showed off some of her discipline and obedience training, giving the kids a chance to see firsthand how important training is for any working dog. The children asked great questions and were excited to learn about the teamwork and trust that goes into training a dog like Hope.

To finish our visit, we all enjoyed reading a book together and sharing a fun morning at the library.

A big thank you to the Ladd Public Library staff for welcoming us and helping make this event such a success. Hope loved meeting everyone and can’t wait for the next visit! 💙📖🐶

The Ladd Police Department begins Fourth of July crackdown on impaired drivers and seat belt law violators

Ladd, IL – The Ladd Police Department announced plans for Independence Day traffic enforcement with a focus on impaired and unbuckled drivers. The safety campaign will run from June 19 through July 6 to encompass three summer weekends leading up to and after the holiday.

“We’re asking all of our residents and visitors to celebrate Independence Day safely,” said Officer Samantha Sarosinski. “It’s simple: If you’re driving, don’t drink or use drugs. Our officers will be out in full force to keep impaired drivers off the road.”

The Ladd Police Department will join the Illinois State Police and more than 200 local police and sheriff’s departments for the increased statewide enforcement effort.

To celebrate Independence Day safely, designate a sober driver and don’t let friends or family members drive under the influence.

Other important tips include:
• Give your designated driver your keys before you go out.
• If you are drunk or impaired by cannabis or other drugs, call a taxi, use your favorite ride-sharing service or call a sober friend or family member to get you home safely.
• Promptly report drunk drivers to law enforcement by pulling over and dialing 911.
• Make sure everyone in your vehicle wears their seat belt. Not only is it the law, it’s your best defense against an impaired driver.
The Illinois Independence Day enforcement campaign is funded with federal highway safety dollars administered by the Illinois Department of Transportation and supported by the Illinois State Police and local law enforcement agencies across the state. It’s reinforced with IDOT’s “It’s Not a Game” media campaign, which shares real stories of Illinois residents lost in fatal crashes.

🐾 Why Training Matters for Therapy Dogs and Their Handlers 🐾

When people see Hope at community events, schools, festivals, nursing homes, or during outreach programs, they often see a friendly face, a wagging tail, and a dog that loves meeting people. What many don’t see are the countless hours of training, preparation, and dedication that go into making a successful therapy dog team.

A therapy dog must be much more than friendly. They must remain calm and focused in busy environments filled with loud noises, crowds, sirens, children, bicycles, vehicles, and unexpected distractions. Therapy dogs are trained to maintain proper behavior, respond to commands, stay composed under stress, and interact safely and appropriately with people of all ages and backgrounds.

Equally important is the training of the handler. Handlers must learn how to read canine body language, recognize signs of stress or fatigue, manage interactions, maintain safety, and ensure every encounter is positive for both the dog and the people they serve. A successful therapy dog program is truly a team effort between the dog and handler.

Ongoing training never stops. Therapy dog teams regularly work on:
✅ Obedience and discipline training
✅ Exposure to busy public environments
✅ Socialization with people of all ages
✅ Confidence building around loud noises and distractions
✅ Public interaction skills
✅ Safety and liability awareness
✅ Community outreach and engagement techniques
✅ Continuing education and certification requirements

Programs like ours are only possible because of the generosity of our community. Therapy dog programs require ongoing funding for training classes, certification fees, veterinary care, health insurance, equipment, leashes, vests, identification gear, toys, treats, transportation, and other specialized tools needed to keep the program operating safely and effectively.

The Ladd Police Department’s Therapy Dog Program is funded entirely through donations and community support. No tax dollars are used to care for Hope. Every donation directly helps provide training, equipment, medical care, and opportunities for Hope to continue serving our residents.
