The Ladd Public Library was pleased to host "The Promise of a Better Life," a program presented by local author and historian Jim Piacenti last Saturday.

The presentation and discussion focused on the history of the coal mines in Eastern Bureau County, covering the experiences of miners and owners, as well as the dangers of the industry, including the Cherry Mine Disaster. We would like to extend our sincere thanks to Jim for sharing his extensive knowledge of our local history. A few photos of the Ladd Mine from the event are included below.

We also want to thank our patrons for attending, as well as the Library Board and Director for making this program possible.

For those interested in learning more about the history of our local coal mines, Jim Piacenti's book, "The Promise of a Better Life," is available for checkout at the Ladd Public Library.
