This Juneteenth, SSD recognizes and honors the history, resilience, and contributions of African Americans and the lasting significance of this day in our nation’s history.

Juneteenth offers an opportunity to reflect on the importance of freedom, acknowledge the ongoing pursuit of equity, and celebrate the strength and achievements of African American communities.

SSD buildings, schools, and programs will be closed on Friday, June 19, 2026, in observance of Juneteenth.

Summer is a great time to explore and learn together as a family! SSD’s FACE (Family and Community Engagement) encourages families to take advantage of the many educational and affordable opportunities our community has to offer this summer. When students visit places like the Zoo, Art Museum, or Science Center, they experience things that cannot be replicated in a classroom. Educators call this building background knowledge—the real-world experiences that help students better understand what they read and learn in school.

This week, we proudly celebrated our eighth-grade students as they marked an important milestone and prepared for the next chapter of their educational journey. 📚 Big news for our library!

Litzsinger has been awarded a $5,000 grant from the Snapdragon Book Foundation to expand library access and bring even more engaging reading opportunities to students. The grant will help purchase graphic novels, illustrated chapter books, adaptive materials, and sensory-friendly resources that support a wide range of reading abilities and learning needs.

“We are excited to provide students with engaging, accessible reading opportunities that support literacy growth, communication, imagination, and a love of reading,” said Principal Julie Moorman. A special thank you to School Librarian Amanda Wise, whose dedication and grant-writing efforts continue to create meaningful opportunities for students and strengthen learning across the school community.

This week, we celebrate the people who make Litzsinger School such a special place to learn, grow, and belong.

Our staff members show up each day with patience, compassion, creativity, and unwavering dedication to our students and one another. Behind every lesson, every calm moment, every breakthrough, every smile, and every success are countless hours of planning, teamwork, problem-solving, encouragement, and care.

The work they do is not easy, but they continue to give their all day in and day out because they believe deeply in our students and their potential.

As we celebrate Teacher Appreciation Week and our overwhelming appreciation for all of the amazing staff at Litzsinger, we felt it necessary to reiterate that we have the Best.👏 Team.👏 Ever. 👏 (Peep the t-shirts)

Our interpreters help every student feel seen, heard, and connected 🤟

This Deaf Awareness Month, we’re celebrating the interpreters in our building who play a vital role in supporting communication and inclusion. Through their skill, attentiveness, and flexibility, they ensure Deaf and hard-of-hearing students can fully engage in learning and school life. Their presence helps create a space where students can express themselves and build meaningful connections.
