Barren Hill Volunteer Fire Company Volunteer Fire Company established in 1915. Proudly serving Whitemarsh Township and surrounding areas.

After a disastrous fire on the property of Whitemarsh Inn on Thanksgiving Eve, 1915, in which the barn was totally destroyed, including a carload of cows, calves, and 100 turkeys belonging to George Schwartz, the citizens of Barren Hill realized the necessity for a Volunteer Fire Company.

At 1:00 am this morning, our volunteers were called to assist the Police and our local towing company in dismantling an enclosed trailer that was severely damaged after it struck a steel beam on West Valley Green Road. There were no injuries reported

While it allowed our volunteers to practice using various hydraulic and hand tools, we would have preferred a full night's sleep!

PUBLIC SAFETY ANNOUNCEMENT

The signs leading up to the STEEL BEAM do not lie; they are accurate. The STEEL BEAM does not flex, bend, or otherwise raise to allow you past the 7ft height, with a taller vehicle.

7ft means 7ft. If your vehicle or trailer is taller than 7ft, then it will not fit under the 7ft STEEL BEAM on West Valley Green Road. We have confirmed this repeatedly over the last several years. If your vehicle or trailer is taller than 7ft, and you disregard the signage or our warning, you will be in the market for a new vehicle!

The 7ft steel beam remains undefeated.

Shortly after midnight, our Volunteers were alerted to a structure fire in an apartment building in the 400 block of Ridge Pike, Whitemarsh Township. Police arrived on acene and began evacuating residents. Chief 29 (Schwartz) arrived to find light smoke from the exterior of the 3 story apartment building, with a heavy smoke condition inside one of the apartments. All occupants were out and accounted for on arrival.

Engine 29 with a crew of 5 arrived and quickly stretched an 1 3/4" hose line to the apartment to locate the fire. The fire was located in a 2nd floor laundry room and was quickly extinguished. Mutual aid crew assisted with controlling the utilities, ventilation, and overhaul.

One injury was reported to a firefighter, who was treated on scene.

The fire remains under investigation by the Whitemarsh Township Fire Marshals Office.
