You never realize how big a Bald Eagle is until you see it up close. The Migratory Bird Festival last weekend was a hit! Raptors up close, a bird walk, face paint, many exhibitors and even a bluegrass band playing bird-related songs! We had a blast. Thank you to everyone who came out to celebrate birds with us.

Coyotes are a critical part of the ecosystem, as a top predator of the prairie. If you've walked in Open Space, you've likely seen one. Coyotes are most active at dawn and dusk.

To coexist safely with coyotes, follow these tips:
- Always keep your dog leashed
- Keep cats indoors and supervise your pets, even in your backyard
- Reduce attractants in your backyard such as trash, pet food, and bird seed
- Always give coyotes space if you encounter them in the wild

The City is recruiting residents to serve on its boards, commissions, and committees (BCCs)! Get involved, share your perspective, and help inform decisions that impact our community.

Not sure where to start? Stop by the Boards, Commissions, and Committees Open House on Thursday, Aug. 27 from 5:30-7:30pm at the Bob L. Burger Recreation Center to learn about the different groups, meet current members, ask questions, and find an opportunity that fits your interests.

No previous government experience is needed, just an interest in Lafayette and a willingness to get involved.

👀Ever wonder what's happening beneath the surface at Waneka Lake?

🛶The Open Space team got out on the water to deploy fish structures throughout the lake.

🐟These structures provide valuable habitat for fish and are just one of the many ways our team works behind the scenes to support and care for our natural spaces.

🛶Waneka Lake isn't just beautiful from the shoreline there's a whole ecosystem beneath the surface!

⛔ Due to low water levels, the Waneka Lake Boathouse has ended rental operations for the remainder of the season. We look forward to getting you back out on the water in summer 2027!
