Macon County Public Library Read to Succeed at the Macon County Public Library System! The Macon County Public Library opened on Main Street, October 5, 1957, with Mrs.

Anise Harris as the head librarian. Approximately 1,000 books were borrowed from the Regional Library in order to open the library - the county not owning any books of their own. In July of 1968 it was proposed to purchase property for a new library site. Church Street was chosen, and the first day of service at the new 3,200 square foot location was on Monday, March 27, 1972. In 1994, 1,646 squar

e feet were added, and in 2012, ground broke once again to add 1,468 square feet to the existing building.

We had a fantastic kickoff yesterday to our Summer Reading Program at Key Park!!! We would like to say THANK YOU to all that signed up for our program and the kickoff!!! Lots of fun was had decorating tote bags, making dinosaur magnets, creating bookmarks, getting pictures made with our Theo-saurus, playing with water guns and the biggest hit of the day I think was the FOAM FUN!!! We would like to shout out a huge THANK YOU to the Delk family with Dairy Burger for providing the fun foam!! Also we would like to thank the Friends of MCPLS for the donation of popsicles!!! If you have not signed up, THERE IS STILL TIME! We still have LOTS OF FUN PLANNED FOR JUNE!! So go by the library and sign up today!!!!
