Route 15 Bridge Construction – A Little Help From Our Community

Our Route 15 bridge is currently down to one lane, and we’re asking our community for a little extra patience and cooperation while construction continues.

Our firefighters respond from their homes, workplaces, and wherever they happen to be when an emergency call comes in. With traffic moving through a single lane, getting to the firehouse can sometimes be more challenging.

If you see a vehicle displaying a flashing blue light, please know it may be one of our volunteer firefighters responding to the firehouse. When it is safe to do so, please give them the opportunity to get through traffic.

The Wildcats will be hosting a car wash right here at the Lafayette Firehouse, and we’re happy to lend our station to support our local youth!

🚨 Incident Response 🚨
Today, the members of the Lafayette Township Fire Department responded to a serious motor vehicle accident in our community. Due to the severity of the patient's injuries, Atlantic Health System Air One was requested to the scene.
Our crews established and secured a landing zone, allowing the flight crew to safely land, receive the patient, and quickly transport them to a higher level of care. Coordinating a safe landing zone is a critical responsibility that helps ensure patients receive advanced medical treatment as rapidly as possible.
We would like to thank all of the responding agencies for their professionalism and teamwork during this incident. We are keeping those involved in our thoughts and wish the patient a full and speedy recovery.

Meet Miss Lafayette, Autumn Richter!!!

Autumn is entering her junior year in college and plans to earn a BS in Biology, a BS in Forensic Science, and a BA in Education before attending medical school to become an anesthesiologist. She is a member of the Omega Rho Chapter of the TriBeta Biological Honor Society and is completing emergency medical services training while pursuing her college studies. Autumn volunteers with the Lafayette EMS Squad and participates in
community service projects throughout Sussex County. She enjoys horseback riding, hiking and reading about science and medicine.

🧩 Training Under Pressure 🧩
Last week, members of the Lafayette Township Fire Department put their precision, patience, and teamwork to the test with a fun but challenging drill we call "Jaws of Life Jenga."
Using our hydraulic spreaders, firefighters carefully removed wooden blocks one at a time from a stacked tower—without causing it to collapse. While it may look like a game, this drill reinforces several important skills that directly translate to emergency scenes:
🚒 Fine motor control with hydraulic rescue tools
🚒 Maintaining steady tool operation and pressure
🚒 Communication and teamwork
🚒 Patience and precision under pressure
🚒 Building confidence with equipment in a low-stress environment
Every opportunity to train helps prepare us for the moments when lives depend on our skills. By practicing control and technique in creative ways, we're better equipped to perform safely and effectively during real vehicle extrications.

We have been made aware of a phishing scam currently circulating in our area. Residents are receiving emails claiming that a payment of varying amounts has been applied to an outstanding invoice. The sender of this fraudulent email appears as "Fire Chief".

Please be advised:

Our Fire Department does not contact residents or businesses via email regarding invoices, billing, or payments.

This is a phishing attempt designed to steal your personal or financial information.

If you receive this email or one similar, please follow these steps:

DO NOT click on any links.

DO NOT download any attachments or open any documents.

DO NOT reply to the sender.

DELETE the email immediately.

Today, the Lafayette Fire Department, alongside our partners at Branchville Hose Company, successfully completed our annual pump and ground ladder testing.
This testing is a critical part of ensuring our apparatus and equipment are ready to perform when our community needs us most. Pump testing verifies that our fire engines can deliver the required water flow and pressure needed to effectively fight fires. Ground ladder testing ensures our ladders are safe, structurally sound, and ready for use during emergency operations.
Routine testing and maintenance help identify potential issues before they become problems, keeping our firefighters safe and ensuring our equipment is dependable during emergencies. It's all part of our ongoing commitment to providing the highest level of service to the residents and visitors of our community.
A big thank you to Branchville Hose Company for their partnership and teamwork throughout today's testing. Working together helps keep all of our departments prepared for whatever comes our way.
