YWCA Greater Lafayette was honored to once again join Purdue CARE on October 1st for the Annual Honor Walk, standing alongside members of our community to recognize survivors of domestic violence and remember those whose lives have been lost.

The Honor Walk gives our community a moment to pause, reflect, and acknowledge the impact domestic violence has on individuals, families, and communities. For survivors, knowing that others are willing to stand with them matters. For those we have lost, remembering their lives matters.

As candle bearers, we were proud to be part of a gathering that brought people together through compassion, remembrance, and a shared commitment to creating a safer future. We will continue to show up, speak out, and remind survivors that they are not alone.

Thank you to CARE at Purdue for creating space for our community to come together, remember, and stand in support of survivors.

🧡 You don’t have to heal alone.

Starting Thursday, October 15th, YWCA Greater Lafayette will start up our Healing Forward Sexual Trauma Support Group again, creating a supportive space for survivors to connect, heal, and move forward together.

This group will meet every Thursday from 4–5 PM at the YWCA Greater Lafayette Advocacy Center, located at 624 N. 6th St., Lafayette, IN 47901.

The group will run for approximately 10 weeks and will follow Healing Sexual Trauma Workbook: A Survivor’s Guide to Recovery, Empowerment and Self-Care – CPTSD/PTSD by Paula Ocampo. The workbook’s 11 units will be incorporated throughout the 10-week experience, guiding participants through a supportive progression that begins with understanding trauma and how the nervous system responds, then focuses on building personal resiliency and developing a self-care plan.

Together, participants will explore grounding techniques, building supportive connections, positive self-talk and affirmations, setting healthy boundaries, recognizing and navigating triggers, and coping with challenges such as flashbacks and nightmares. The group will also create space for reconnecting with the body, finding healthy ways to express yourself, and building resilience for the future.

You can join the group at any time during the 10-week session. You do not have to wait for a new session to begin to find support.

At YWCA Greater Lafayette, we believe in eliminating racism, empowering women, and promoting peace, justice, freedom, and dignity for all. We also believe that survivors deserve support, understanding, and a safe space to heal, at their own pace and in their own way.

Additional group locations and options, including Frankfort, Monticello, and/or virtual sessions, may be available in the coming months.

If you are interested in attending, please sign up using the QR code or visit: bit.ly/In-PersonSupportGroupsSignUpForm

Signing up helps us get an idea of how many people to expect, but walk-ins are always welcome.

Young people today face unique challenges, including related to unhealthy relationships and digital abuse. Digital abuse can take many forms including controlling someone’s social media accounts, sending threatening messages, or sharing private images without consent.

These actions can erode trust, invade privacy, and cause emotional trauma. Educating youth about healthy boundaries and consent can help prevent abuse and foster healthy relationships.

If you or someone you know needs support, our domestic violence and r**e crisis center is available 24/7. If you are in need of emergency shelter or services, please call us at 765-423-1118 or toll free at 888-345-1118 to speak to an advocate.
