City of LaFayette, GA - Police Department . The LaFayette Police Department is a full-service community-oriented police department that focuses on proudly serving our citizens. Cpl. Guthrie and Cpl.

Chief Stacey Meeks and Assistant Chief Jason Steadman lead the department and bring an abundance of experience and training to our department. The Police Department is divided into Administrative, Investigative, and Patrol divisions. The Administrative Division consists of Receptionist/Clerk Jennifer Snider, Court Clerk Nykki Estus, and Crime Scene Technician/Crisis Intervention Specialist Terry R

The Investigative Division is commanded by Lieutenant Robby Tate who proudly serves with Detective Sergeant Nick Terry, Detective Sergeant Pepper Stanfield, and Investigative Support Specialist Sergeant Mike Sprouse. Sergeant Dusty Coker is assigned to the Lookout Mountain Judicial Circuit Drug Task Force. The Patrol Division is commanded by Lieutenant Chris Reynolds who proudly serves with Sergeant First Class Brock Campbell, Sergeant First Class Josh Worley, Sergeant Tyler Houser, Sergeant Jared Ramey, Sergeant Tim Cook, Sergeant Ryan Wilson, Corporal Chase Smith, Corporal Jacquis Hunt, Patrolman Matt Matteson, Patrolman Trey Simpson, Patrolman Chris Pyper, Patrolman Jeremy Moss, Patrolman Dustin Clift, and they are all responsible for enforcing all federal and state laws as well as local ordinances. We also have Patrolman Jonathan Camp, Patrolman Charles Haven, Patrolman Justin Henry, Patrolman Carter Ferguson, Patrolman Jarod Williamson, Patrolman Stacy Blalock and Patrolman Vernon Barnett who serve as part-time officers. Corporal Faith Guthrie is the School Resource Officer at LaFayette High School and Corporal Kreis Winkler is the School Resource Officer at LaFayette Middle School, Gilbert Elementary, and North LaFayette Elementary. Winkler assist Road Patrol when school is not in session. Animal Control - Response for DOMESTICATED ANIMALS ONLY (i.e. – dogs and cats). The Animal Control Officer is Sergeant Mike Sprouse. The police department is asking for your help in locating the vehicle depicted in the attached photographs.

The vehicle is suspected of being involved in a Hit & Run accident which occurred on Wednesday, July 29, 2026 at around 4:07 p.m.. The accident was at the intersection of E. Villanow Street (Ga. Hwy 136 E.) and Highway 27 Bypass.

The photo depicting the front of the vehicle was captured just prior to the incident. The photo showing the rear of the vehicle was taken a few days prior to the incident.

Anyone who knows the owner/operator of this vehicle or the vehicle's whereabouts is asked to contact LaFayette Police Department at (706) 639-1540 during normal business hours or our TipLine at (706) 639-1545. Please do not post possible suspect names in this thread.

Rest assured that we have taken all possible measures to make out the registration on the vehicle.

🚔 OFFICER COMMENDATION 🚔

The LaFayette Police Department would like to recognize Staff Sergeant Houser, Sergeant Hunt, and Patrolman Craig for their quick response, teamwork, and investigative efforts that led to the arrest of a prowling suspect.

On August 13, 2026, at approximately 10:10 p.m., officers responded to a report of a suspicious person captured on a homeowner’s security camera. The homeowners were away from the residence but were able to provide officers with a description of the individual.

While Staff Sergeant Houser and Patrolman Craig responded to the residence and investigated the complaint, Sergeant Hunt searched the surrounding area and located a male matching the description provided by the homeowners. Through communication with the homeowners and a review of the security footage, officers were able to positively identify the individual as the suspect seen on the property.

The video showed the suspect looking through the window of the front door, possibly attempting to determine whether anyone was home. Although no entry was made into the residence, the investigation resulted in the suspect being taken into custody and charged with Criminal Trespass and Prowling.

We are proud to recognize Staff Sergeant Houser, Sergeant Hunt, and Patrolman Craig for their quick response, teamwork, attention to detail, and commitment to protecting our community.

Their actions are a great example of the dedication our officers demonstrate every day as we work to keep LaFayette a safe place to live, visit, and work.

🚔 OUTSTANDING POLICE WORK & TEAMWORK 🚔

The City of LaFayette Police Department would like to recognize Sergeant Simpson and Patrolman McDaniel for their outstanding service, teamwork, and dedication to duty.

On August 7, 2026, Sergeant Simpson and Patrolman McDaniel responded to a call involving a suspicious male loitering on the back porch of a residence. Their response resulted in the arrest of the individual, who was found to be in possession of a handgun and a large amount of cash.

Rather than stopping with the initial arrest, both officers continued their investigation. Through diligent follow-up, the suspect was linked to multiple additional entering-auto thefts that had occurred in the immediate area. Sergeant Simpson and Patrolman McDaniel worked together to gather statements and evidence, complete follow-up reports, and conduct an additional interview with the suspect at the jail.

Their willingness to go beyond the initial call and thoroughly investigate these incidents demonstrates the type of proactive police work, teamwork, and commitment to our community that we are proud to see from our officers.

Sergeant Simpson and Patrolman McDaniel have both received a Letter of Commendation recognizing their efforts and exceptional service.

🚌 Walker County Schools are back in session! 🎒

As students return to the classroom, the LaFayette Police Department asks everyone to use extra caution during the morning and afternoon hours when traveling throughout our community. Please be alert for children walking to and from school, school crossing zones, and school buses loading and unloading students.

Georgia's school bus passing laws are outlined in the graphic below. Taking a few extra moments to slow down and pay attention can make all the difference in keeping our children safe.

Together, we can help make the City of LaFayette a safe place to live, visit, and work.

Attention: Expanded Closure at Queen City Lake — Wednesday, August 5th

The beach area at Queen City Lake is currently closed. On Wednesday, August 5th, this closure will expand for the day to include the dock and the lake itself. For this day only, the entire area — shoreline, dock, and open water — will be closed to the public, including all recreational activities such as fishing, kayaking, and swimming.

We will be treating the lake for the invasive aquatic plant Eurasian Watermilfoil, a treatment originally planned for later this year. Moving it up while the shoreline is already closed lets us complete the work without a separate closure down the road.

This treatment is unrelated to the E. coli investigation currently underway at the shoreline.
