📢 Announcement of Vacancies on Lafayette City-Parish Boards/Commissions:

Parish:
🔹A vacancy exists on the Parish Planning and Zoning Commission for the remainder of an unexpired five-year term thru January 6, 2030.
🔹A vacancy will exist on the Lafayette Parish Bayou Vermilion District Board (BVD) as of 10-01-2026, this is a four-year term.
🔹A vacancy will exist on the Lafayette Parish Waterworks District South Board as of 10-01-2026, this is a five-year term. Applicants must be district residents.

City:
🔹Four (4) vacancies exist on the Transportation Policy Committee (the governing board for the Metropolitan Planning Organization) effective immediately.
🔹A vacancy exists on the Lafayette Parish Bayou Vermilion District Board of Commissioners for the remainder of an unexpired four-year term through September 30, 2027, effective immediately.
🔹A vacancy exists on the Keep Lafayette Beautiful Committee for a two year term as of August 11, 2026.
🔹A vacancy will exist on the Lafayette Parish Bayou Vermilion District Board (BVD) as of 10-01-2026, this is a four-year term.
🔹A vacancy will exist on the Lafayette Public Trust Financing Authority as of 11-01-2026, this is a five-year term.

⚡️ A stronger, more resilient electric grid is coming to Lafayette.

Lafayette Utilities System (LUS) has been awarded $3.98M in federal and state grant funding to strengthen and modernize the electric system in the project area you see in dark blue on this map.

The investment will help LUS:
🔹 Replace aging wooden poles with more durable structures
🔹 Upgrade overhead distribution lines
🔹 Install technology to detect outages in real time
🔹 Speed up outage response and restoration
🔹 Strengthen power circuits serving critical facilities like police, fire, water, sewer, and public health

These improvements mean a more resilient electric system that can better withstand severe weather and help keep essential services running when our community needs them most.

In observance of Labor Day, Lafayette Consolidated Government announces the following service updates for Monday, September 7, 2026:

🚍 No Lafayette Transit System services (normal operations resume Tuesday).
🗑️ Acadiana Waste Services, LLC garbage & recycling will run on their regular schedule.
🌱 The Dean Domingue Compost Facility will be closed Saturday, Sept. 5, and Monday, Sept. 7.
🏢 All City-Parish buildings will be closed Monday.

🚧 ROAD CLOSURE: Rich Angel Drive

Rich Angel Drive at W. Gloria Switch Road (LA Hwy 98) will be closed Wednesday, September 2-4, 2026 while LCG drainage crews replace a deteriorated cross drain with new reinforced concrete pipe.

🚗 Detour routes will be made available along route. Motorists are urged to use caution and allow extra time when traveling through the area.

The Growth Plan will help guide future decisions related to land use, transportation, infrastructure, housing, economic development and quality of life throughout Lafayette Parish.

The Lafayette City and Parish Councils took another step today in their ongoing review considering amendments, wrap up items, and receiving public comment.

Join us on September 10, as both councils will meet during the Joint Council Meeting to vote on the adoption of the FY26-27 budget.

Thank you to everyone who joined us at last night’s public meeting to share your ideas, priorities, and vision for the future of Mouton Park. 🌳

Mouton Park holds a special place in our community, and LCG wants to ensure that future improvements reflect the needs of the residents, families, and neighbors who use and enjoy the park.

Lafayette City Council Chair Kenneth Boudreaux and PARC Director Byron Starks shared ideas and possibilities for the park while, most importantly, listening to your feedback and priorities as we move into the design process.

We appreciate everyone who took the time to participate and help shape what comes next for Mouton Park. Your input is an important part of planning for its future.
