The Walker County Board of Commissioners recently made changes to the county’s Animal Code to provide for spay/neuter requirements.

“We are extremely thankful the Board has supported us by taking a proactive approach to decreasing pet overpopulation in our county,” said Bailey Clements, director of animal services. “Our shelter took in over 2,000 dogs and cats last year and sadly less than 9% had been spayed or neutered.”

The code now states that no person may own, keep, or be in possession of a dog or cat that is six months of age or older which has not been spayed or neutered, unless they fall into one of three exemptions or hold a license for an unaltered animal.

Adventure Acres will be closing at 7:00 p.m. tonight for overnight work.

We will be closing the full park at 7:00 p.m. this evening. Crews will be working overnight on the splash pad surface and since sandblasting will be involved, we don't want anyone to encounter the debris. The left side of the park (playground, pavilion, trail) will reopen Friday morning. We will provide an update on the splash pad Monday, if not sooner.

A big day for Walker County! 🎉

Today we celebrated the dedication of the John Culpepper Chickamauga Battlefield Connector Trail — a project that represents collaboration, connectivity, outdoor recreation, tourism, and continued investment in our community’s future.

The new connector creates an exciting link between the City of Chickamauga and the Chickamauga & Chattanooga National Military Park while enhancing accessibility for residents and visitors alike.

Thank you to all of the community leaders, partners, organizations, and supporters who helped make this vision a reality. From planning and funding to advocacy and development, this project reflects what can happen when organizations come together with a shared purpose.

We’re proud to see another step forward in making Walker County an even better place to live, work, and explore. 🚴‍♀️🚶‍♂️🌳

If you'll be in LaFayette for the Honeybee Festival - LaFayette, GA this weekend, please make a note of these road closures.

The Honeybee Event will be this Friday and Saturday night and we wanted to pass along some alternate routes to be able to safely navigate around the event.

All of North Main Street (highlighted in red) and side streets will be closed between the Food City Parking lot and West Main Street starting at 5:00 pm on Friday May 29, 2026 until Sunday May 31, 2026 at 8:00 am. You can use Cherokee Street and Duke Street (highlighted in yellow)to get around this road closure.

On Saturday night starting at 4:00 pm, Cherokee Street will be closed from the Food City parking lot entrance to Simmons Street until 12:00 am. Culberson Street will also be closed from Cherokee Street to Oak Street during this same time frame (highlighted in orange).
