Tippecanoe County CASA

Tippecanoe County CASA By empowering community volunteers, Tippecanoe County CASA speaks up for children who have experienced abuse or neglect.

Every child has the right to safety, to be treated with dignity and respect, and to learn and grow in the security of a loving family. A CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocate) is an unbiased voice that speaks up for the best interest of a child who has been put into the court system because of abuse and neglect. This community volunteer serves an important role in the life of a child in the syste

m. The CASA takes the time to learn and understand what each child needs and their recommendations are a critical part of the judge's decision making process.

๐Ÿง ๐Ÿ’™ A childโ€™s brain is being built every single day and everyday interactions matter.

Talking and listening, playing together, offering encouragement, being present, and creating predictable routines all help support healthy development. These ordinary moments help children build language, confidence, problem-solving skills, emotional security, and strong relationships.

Supporting healthy child development is also part of prevention. When children and families have the relationships and support they need to thrive, we help build stronger families and a stronger community.

Small moments. Big impact. ๐Ÿ’™

๐ŸฅŽ CASA at the Battle of the Badges! ๐Ÿš“๐Ÿš’๐Ÿ’™

What a great night at the 2nd Annual Battle of the Badges, where the Lafayette Police Department and Lafayette Fire Department faced off on the softball field for a night of friendly competition, community, and fun!

Tippecanoe County CASA was proud to serve as a Title Sponsor of this yearโ€™s event, and we were especially proud to have one of our own, CASA volunteer Jenn Frey, throw out the first pitch! ๐ŸฅŽ๐Ÿ‘

Mayor Tony Roswarski joined the community in cheering on both teams, and while there was plenty of action on the field, the Police Department took home the win for the second year in a row! ๐Ÿš“๐Ÿ† We have a feeling the Fire Department may already be plotting their comeback for year three. ๐Ÿ˜‰๐Ÿš’

We even had a feathered guest in our sky box suite! (Was it our Sophie back with us in spirit?!?!) ๐Ÿชถ

We had such a great time spending the evening with members of our community and some of our incredible CASA volunteers.

And speaking of volunteersโ€ฆ we need more of you. ๐Ÿ’™

Right now, there are children in Tippecanoe County who need a consistent adult in their corner. You donโ€™t have to be a social worker, attorney, or expert. You just need to be willing to show up, listen, learn, and advocate for a child who needs someone to make sure their voice is heard.

One person can make an extraordinary difference in the life of a child. Why not you?

Interested in becoming a CASA volunteer? Send us a message or contact our office to learn about our next training class. ๐Ÿ’™

Thank you to the Lafayette Police Department, Lafayette Fire Department, Mayor Roswarski, our CASA volunteers, and everyone who came out for another fantastic Battle of the Badges!

๐Ÿ“ธ Here are a few of our favorite moments from the night!

๐ŸŒŸ MOTIVATIONAL MONDAY ๐ŸŒŸ

This weekend was a pretty incredible reminder of something we see every day at CASA:

You donโ€™t have to do everything to make a difference. You just have to do something. ๐Ÿ’™

One rider pedals another mile.
One volunteer shows up for one child.
One donor gives what they can.
One staff member makes one more phone call.
One person decides, โ€œI can help.โ€

And suddenly, all of those individual acts become something HUGE.

Almost 250 riders came together this weekend for the CASA for Kids Cycling Challenge and raised over $120,000, but the real power wasnโ€™t found in any single lap around the track. It was found in hundreds of people choosing to show up for children they may never even meet.

History was made in the individual female category where Rachel Kippenbrock rode for 410 miles-a new record! Peter Birckhead logged 332 miles and topped the menโ€™s leader board. Team CAT 101-1 rode for a combined 510 miles! Thatโ€™s a lot of peddling!!! ๐Ÿšฒ ๐Ÿ˜ฎโ€๐Ÿ’จ

Thatโ€™s how change happens.

Not always through grand gestures, but through ordinary people who keep showing up, keep caring, and keep doing the next right thing.

So hereโ€™s your Monday reminder:

โœจ Never underestimate the power of what you bring to the world. Your one small act may be exactly what someone else needs. โœจ

Whatโ€™s one small thing YOU can do this week to make someoneโ€™s day a little better? ๐Ÿ’™

๐ŸŒ…๐Ÿšด WHAT A WAY TO START THE DAY! ๐Ÿšด๐ŸŒ…

There was something pretty special about watching the sun rise over SIA this morning as we kicked off the 15th Annual CASA for Kids Cycling Challenge. โค๏ธ

For 15 years, this incredible event has brought our community together to ride for children, and during that time, more than $1 MILLION has been raised to support kids served by CASA! That number is incredible, but what it represents is even bigger: opportunities, experiences, necessities, comfort, stability, and moments of joy for children who have already faced far too much.

More than 200 riders are taking on the challenge of cycling for 24 hours, each mile representing the commitment this community has made to showing up for our kids. ๐Ÿšดโ€โ™‚๏ธ๐Ÿ’ช

We began the morning with a beautiful rendition of the National Anthem by Representative Sheila Klinker and her son, and Patti Oโ€™Callaghan kept everything moving as our wonderful Master of Ceremonies.

A tremendous thank you to Jim Stafford of the CASA for Kids Board, who coordinated this incredible event. So much work happens behind the scenes to make a day like this possible, and every board member pitched in to bring it all together. CASA staff and volunteers were also out bright and early, lending their hands, their energy, and their hearts. โค๏ธ

CASA Executive Director Julie Bonaventura had the privilege of sharing a few words about why we were all there: because children who have experienced abuse and neglect need someone in their corner. They need a CASA who will know their story, speak up for their needs, and make sure their voice is heard. And they need CASA for Kids to help make possible some of the things that can bring normalcy, opportunity, healing, and simply a little childhood back into their lives.

This Cycling Challenge is so much more than bicycles and miles.

It is 24 hours of our community saying to our kids: You matter. We see you. And we are willing to go the distance for you. โค๏ธ

To every rider, fundraiser, sponsor, board member, volunteer, staff member, supporter, and person cheering from the sidelines: THANK YOU.

Hereโ€™s to 15 years, more than $1 million raised, 200+ riders, countless miles, and one incredible community riding together for our kids. ๐Ÿšดโ€โ™€๏ธ๐Ÿšดโ€โ™‚๏ธโค๏ธ
