Did you know?
The Lafayette Municipal Code contains provisions regarding inoperable vehicles on private property. Under LMC 5.445, an inoperable vehicle may not be maintained on private property for more than one month.
For purposes of the code, an inoperable vehicle generally includes a vehicle that:
• Does not have current registration;
• Cannot be moved without repair or dismantling; or
• Is no longer safely usable for its intended purpose.
The code does not apply to vehicles stored inside a building or vehicles located at businesses lawfully engaged in vehicle repair, wrecking, or similar activities.
The City periodically receives questions regarding this code section, and wanted to provide this information as a community resource. If residents have concerns regarding a potential code violation, they may submit a service request through the Our Lafayette GoGov App, contact the City's Code Enforcement Officer at (503) 864-2451, or email [email protected]. Please include the property address and any other pertinent information to assist staff in reviewing the concern.
As always, the City's goal is to work with residents and property owners to achieve voluntary compliance whenever possible.
