Serial Residential Burglary Suspect Arrested

Earlier this week, three residential burglaries occurred in Lafayette. Lafayette PD identified the suspect who committed them. On Tuesday, Lafayette detectives went to a home on the 3800 block of Alhambra Way in Martinez to serve a search warrant in connection to the cases. The suspect fled after seeing police. Contra Costa Sheriff’s Office, Walnut Creek PD, Martinez PD, and East Bay Regional Park Police assisted in the search for the suspect, who was not located. Property stolen in the burglaries was recovered in the house. On Wednesday, Lafayette detectives and the Sheriff’s Office special enforcement unit J-Team took the suspect, who was driving a stolen vehicle, into custody in Walnut Creek.

The suspect is identified as 34-year-old Kohlton Kumnick of Martinez. He was booked into the Martinez Detention Facility on burglary, vehicle theft, possession of stolen property, felon in possession of a firearm, grand theft, identity theft, resisting arrest, and narcotic charges. He is being held in lieu of $220,000 bail.

On Tuesday, August 4, Lafayette Police Department personnel joined Contra Costa County Fire Protection District firefighters, city staff, and community partners for an evening of conversations and fun.

Attendees met police officers, professional and parking enforcement staff, Crime Scene Investigation personnel, firefighters, and members of the Crime Prevention and Emergency Preparedness Commissions. They also enjoyed drone demonstrations by our reserve officers and ate delicious Mexican food from La Kura food truck.

Thank you to everyone who participated and helped make Lafayette's National Night Out a great success!

Stolen Vehicle Suspects Arrested

On Wednesday, July 29, 2026, at about 2:02 AM, Lafayette police officers driving on Old Tunnel Road spotted a stolen vehicle going in the opposite direction. The officers turned around and began searching for the vehicle, locating it a short time later on Linda Vista Lane.

With the assistance of Contra Costa deputy sheriffs from Valley Station, a perimeter was set up. A Sheriff’s Office K-9 and drone were used to search for the suspects. The drone located, in a backyard, heat sources of two suspects who were called out to surrender and were arrested. A third suspect was found nearby by the K-9. Two fi****ms were also found near where the suspects were hiding.

The suspects were arrested and booked into the Martinez Detention Facility on stolen vehicle, resisting an officer, and weapon charges. 🚓
