Please consider these safety practices when drinking out to help prevent ingesting unintended substances such as date-rape-drugs. These drugs can be slipped into drinks or food and are often colorless, odorless, and tasteless.

Only accept drinks from trusted sources. Pass on drinks you didn't see poured or prepared.

Keep your drink in sight. Don't leave a drink (or food) unattended. Confusion, dizziness, or extreme drowsiness can signal something isn't right.

Best to go out in numbers, but if you're out alone, check in with someone you trust throughout the evening. If you or someone else is in danger, don't hesitate to call police.

Please always plan for a sober ride home.

Lafayette Police Department is offering Cop Talks this summer to provide presentations and opportunities for conversation on topics of community interest. Our June presentation is on automatic license plate reader (ALPR) cameras. The Lafayette Police Department uses Flock Safety ALPR cameras. This system reads license plates on public roads to help solve crimes, locate missing people, and respond to alert notifications. There have been a lot of concerns and myths regarding the use of this technology and what police departments are doing with the data. Join our Cop Talks presentation on June 17, at 6pm, at the police department (451 N. 111th St.) to hear more about this topic, ask questions, and get informed.

If you plan to attend this event, we would appreciate if you would please register (through link below) to help us monitor capacity for our building space. Thank you very much.

Enjoy a fun filled day with the Lafayette Police and Fire Departments on July 15 at Public Safety Day for Kids! There will be police and fire equipment, police cars, police motorcycle, fire trucks, and demonstrations by both departments. Kids can climb into a police cruiser and fire engine, sit on a police motorcycle, and walk through SWAT's armored vehicle, an ambulance, and the police department's Mobile Command Center. A Flight for Life helicopter also touches down during the event, allowing kids to climb into the pilot's seat, an annual favorite! The Bomb Squad bring their tactical vehicle and bomb detecting robot. The fire department demonstrates how they use equipment to rescue people trapped inside a vehicle. LPD demonstrates how drones assist with investigations. The Boulder County Sheriff's Office bring their K9s.The Lafayette Recreation Center will also be handing out some discounted admissions to The Great Outdoors Waterpark (only to be used on July 15).
