Our Community Police Academy recently covered building searches, search warrants, arrest control, use of force, and our animal protection division. Participants learned how to search and clear a building using the same techniques officers use. Stay tuned to keep up with the fall 2026 class. The third week in September is Child Passenger Safety Week intended to focus on the proper use of car safety seats for children. Did you know the Lafayette Police Department has a Community Speed Watch Program? This program is a neighborhood traffic safety program partnering concerned community members with LPD. Community members have an opportunity to be actively involved in addressing their neighborhood speeding issues by monitoring their streets using radar equipment provided by the police department. There is a short training session on how to use the radar and a discussion on the guidelines of the program. The goal of the program is to increase public awareness about the negative impacts of speeding on neighborhood streets. Learn more about the program here:
