LPD is offering Cop Talks this summer to provide presentations and opportunities for conversation on topics of community interest. Our July topic is on police response to calls for service that may involve crisis or behavior health issues. Did you know the Lafayette Police Department has a Co-Responder Program that works out of our department? This partnership with Boulder County is a resource that provides a valuable level of service to our community. Working as a team, law enforcement officers and behavior health specialists respond together to calls for service that may involve mental health, substances abuse, or crisis situations. On scene, the team works not only to de-escalate the situation but also provide resources to needed services. Join our Cop Talks presentation on July 22, at 6pm, at the police department (451 N. 111th St) to hear more about this topic, ask questions, and get informed.

Additional indictments have been issued by the Grand Jury on the recent Lafayette investigation into skimming devices on ATMs and cash registers at convenient stores in Lafayette and the metro area.

There will be increased police presence this afternoon/evening (June 17) at Ryan Elementary School, located at 1405 Centaur Village Dr., for department training. This training involves realistic scenario-based exercises with law enforcement officers and vehicles.

LPD Animal Protection took pavement and concrete surface temperatures while it was 96 degrees outside. Pavement temps went as high as 140 and concrete as high as 126 degrees. Our pets can't tell us when their paws are hot, so please be careful walking them outdoors on these hot days. Thank you.

Lafayette Police Department is offering Cop Talks this summer to provide presentations and opportunities for conversation on topics of community interest. Our June presentation is on automatic license plate reader (ALPR) cameras. The Lafayette Police Department uses Flock Safety ALPR cameras. This system reads license plates on public roads to help solve crimes, locate missing people, and respond to alert notifications. There have been a lot of concerns and myths regarding the use of this technology and what police departments are doing with the data. Join our Cop Talks presentation tomorrow (June 17), at 6pm, at the police department (451 N. 111th St.) to hear more about this topic, ask questions, and get informed.
