Just after 8pm yesterday, the Engine staffed with 4 and our mutual aid partners at Jenkins Township Fire Dept. took in this well involved auto on Interstate 81 in Laflin.

The fire was under control in minutes and there were no injuries.

The Engine, assisted by Jenkins Township Fire Dept. and Greater Pittston Regional Ambulance handled this box truck fire on Laflin Road around 7:30 this morning. 1 line was placed in service holding the fire to the cab area of the truck, which was loaded with household appliances.

Prior to this, crews spent the early morning hours in Bear Creek as part of the 2nd alarm assignment on a structure fire.

The Laflin Fire Department was honored to participate today in the 2026 Pittston Area High School’s Mock Crash as part of the Prom Promise campaign with our mutual aid partners from Jenkins Township, the City of Pittston and Pittston Township Fire Departments and Greater Pittston Regional EMS.

This event, organized for the last 10 years by Deputy Chief Drew Malvizzi and Captain Marc Malvizzi, whom are both career firefighters in Greater Pittston Area agencies, highlight the dangers and real life consequences of intoxicated driving amongst teens especially during the prom season.

Dayshift duty crews and volunteers from the Laflin Fire Department, Jenkins Township Fire Department, Pittston City Fire Department and Greater Pittston Regional Ambulance gathered at the Laflin Fire Department today for lunch provided by Mission BBQ on Mundy Street in Wilkes Barre Township today.
Mission BBQ often selects a local public safety agency to donate lunch to show their appreciation. Thank you Mission BBQ!

The Easter Bunny made its annual visit to Laflin Borough this afternoon. The Laflin Fire Department had the honor of escorting the Easter bunny around town to say hello to all the good kids of Laflin. After that, the Easter Bunny was then escorted to the Laflin Rec Board’s annual Easter Egg Hunt at the St. Maria Goretti Church. A heartfelt thank you goes out to the Laflin Rec Board for allowing us to be involved in this event every year.

Reported Structure Fire - Old Mill Road in Laflin - Engine 5 responded

Crews located a malfunctioning heating unit. No fire.

This afternoon, the Engine and Rescue along with our mutual aid partners responded to a reported structure fire on Laflin Road in Laflin.

Moments from the initial dispatch, the Engine arrived locating a dryer on fire deploying a water can to hold the fire to the dryer.

Units returned after approximately 30 minutes.

The Engine responded as part of the first alarm assignment to this dwelling fire in Wyoming this afternoon.

The Engine arrived and assumed first due engine responsibilities laying 500ft of supply line and stretching 2 hand-lines to support Jenkins Township’s Ladder already operating.

Volunteers spent approximately 4 hours on this incident before returning.

Rescue 2 remained staffed with additional volunteers for the duration of this incident and handled 2 incidents in Laflin Borough, a motor vehicle accident and a brush fire.
