This year, a total of 343 tribute badges with custom LaGrange Fire Department lanyards will be available for participants to wear during the climb. Each badge features the photograph, name, and assigned unit of one of the 343 firefighters who made the ultimate sacrifice on September 11, 2001.

Whether you complete the full stair climb or climb a single flight, you may keep your tribute badge as a lasting reminder of the firefighter you honored and in recognition of your support for our community.

The City of LaGrange is inviting residents who are interested in becoming more involved in their community to apply to serve on one of the City’s boards or agencies.

Municipal boards and agencies play an important role in local government by bringing community members into the decision-making process and providing valuable knowledge and expertise on a variety of issues.

To make it easier for residents to get involved, District 2 City Councilmember Ameia Cotton Williams encouraged the City to launch a new online application process for individuals interested in serving. The City’s website, www.lagrangega.gov, now features a dedicated Boards and Agencies page with information about each entity, including its purpose and term limits. “Many people don’t know about the opportunities to serve on our boards and agencies,” said Councilperson Cotton Williams. “I wanted to create an opportunity for more residents to apply and bring new ideas and perspectives to our boards. Giving more people the opportunity to serve makes our boards stronger and our community better.”

Residents interested in serving can find a link to the online application (www.bit.ly/4zLqkDk) on the Boards and Agencies page. (www.bit.ly/4ivEfqG) Applications will be accepted even when there are no current vacancies, allowing the City to keep applications on file for future consideration.

Completing an application does not guarantee appointment. Applications will be reviewed when vacancies occur, with consideration given to an applicant’s interests, experience, knowledge, and qualifications as they relate to the board or agency.

“We want to make it easier for our residents to become involved in their local government,” said Mayor Jim Arrington. “Serving on a board or agency is a great way to share your experience, give back to the community, and help shape the future of LaGrange. We encourage all residents to apply.”

*CONGRATULATIONS to the 2026-2027 LaGrange Youth Council*

The City of LaGrange inducted the new 2026-2027 LaGrange Youth Council members into office at the LaGrange City Council meeting Tuesday (8/25) evening.

The new members took their oath and introduced themselves before the Mayor and Council. Before the city council meeting, the youth council heard from Mayor Jim Arrington and City Manager Patrick Bowie.

The LaGrange Youth Council is an advisory board composed of 32 junior and senior high school students from local area schools. This youth council gives local youth a more formal role in the decision-making process, offering real-world experience with elected bodies.

Thirty-two students from LaGrange High School, Troup High School, Callaway High, LaGrange Academy, Lafayette Christian School, and Springwood School are participating in the LaGrange Youth Council for the 2026-2027 school year.

Mayor Jim Arrington and the LaGrange City Council were honored to recognize 91-year-old Helen Woodyard this evening. Ms. Woodyard recently earned her GED through West Georgia Tecnical College becoming the oldest person in Georgia in the past decade to earn a GED! 🎓✨

Helen began taking classes at age 88, inspired by the accomplishments of her four children and determined to achieve a goal she had always wanted to accomplish.

Her words say it best: “I kept going because I don’t quit anything that I start.”

Helen’s family joined her for the special recognition at the City Council meeting.

Congratulations, Helen! Your determination is an inspiration and a wonderful reminder that it is never too late to pursue a dream. Your city is proud of you! 🎓❤️✨

City of LaGrange Opens 2027 Business Registration Renewals

The City of LaGrange is reminding local businesses that annual business registration for the 2027 calendar year is now open. Under Sec. 30-1-6 of the City of LaGrange Code of Ordinances, all businesses are required to register on or before January 1st of each year.

Businesses may renew their registration online beginning in November 2026 at www.sagesgov.com/lagrange-ga. The online renewal process typically takes 10–15 minutes.
Important dates:

• October 15, 2026: Renewal notices emailed to all active businesses
• January 1, 2027: 2027 business registration deadline
• February 1, 2027: Registration becomes delinquent; 10% late fee applies
• February 15, 2027: Late notices emailed to businesses that have not registered
• April 1, 2027: Additional penalties apply to businesses that remain unregistered
• April 15, 2027: Citations may be issued to businesses that remain unregistered

No renewal notices will be mailed. Businesses should monitor their email, including spam and junk folders, to ensure they receive their registration notice.

New businesses can also register through www.sagesgov.com/lagrange-ga. New users must create a username and password to activate an account.
