Author Jessica Handler of Atlanta was guest speaker at the annual meeting Thursday, April 23. She met afterward with Friends president Dan Baker. April Armstead, Ruth Rocap and Gerry Tertychny were elected to the board, Lucy Lopez was named treasurer and Ann Sellman was elected secretary.

The Rev. Robert Jones, a nationally known storyteller and musician, will give a free performance at 5 p.m. Tuesday at LaGrange Memorial Library. His visit is hosted by Friends of the Library and the Azalea Storytelling Festival.

Friends of the Library board member Connie Askew was among the storytellers at the Taste of Storytelling at the library Sunday joining Sidney Gay and Kelley Kroeker and Lewis Powell IV as emcee. The program was made possible by the Azalea Storytelling Festival and Friends of LaGrange Memorial Library.

The community room was filled with students from local schools as Karen Land and her Alaska sled dog Sophia visited. A second program is at 6 p.m. today. Land is a writer, public speaker and three-time participant in the 1,000-mile Iditarod Trail Sled Dog Race as well as many other sprint and endurance races in Alaska, Canada, Montana, Idaho, Wyoming and Maine. Since 2000, Land has traveled to nearly every state with her dog sled, mushing gear, Arctic clothing and beloved dogs, giving more than a thousand school and public library presentations.
