Today, on Peace Officers Memorial Day, we pause to honor the brave men and women in law enforcement who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to their communities and our nation.

Their courage, dedication, and commitment to protecting others will never be forgotten. We also recognize the officers who continue to serve each day, often under difficult and dangerous circumstances, and the families who stand beside them.

On behalf of the LaGrange County Prosecutor’s Office, we remember the fallen, honor their legacy, and express our deepest gratitude to all who wear the badge.

Ricky Devonne McLatcher (Age 63) – Sentenced | LaGrange Superior Court

After nearly 40 years, a LaGrange County cold case has reached its conclusion.

Ricky Devonne McLatcher, 63, pled guilty to Criminal Deviate Conduct (Class A Felony) and Criminal Confinement (Class B Felony) stemming from a 1986 abduction and s*xual assault.

At the sentencing hearing held on April 10, 2026, in LaGrange Superior Court, the Court imposed a sentence of:

▪️ 42 years in the Indiana Department of Correction
▪️ 34 years executed
▪️ Lifetime s*x offender registration

This case was originally investigated by the Indiana State Police, LaGrange County Sheriff’s Office, and Steuben County Sheriff’s Office, but eventually went cold after all leads were exhausted.

In 2015, an Indiana State Police detective renewed efforts and confirmed that DNA evidence had been preserved. While earlier testing produced no matches, advances in technology changed that.

In 2023, genetic genealogy identified a family line tied to the evidence, and the Indiana State Police Investigations Bureau ultimately narrowed that line to McLatcher—leading to his arrest in 2025 and return to LaGrange County.

The victim has lived with the impact of this crime for nearly four decades.

“And while the Defendant has expressed some remorse, the reality is that accountability has been delayed—not avoided—and today is the day it finally happens. Sentencing here serves to recognize the harm, to hold the Defendant accountable, and to make clear that even decades later, serious crimes like this will be met with serious consequences.” – LaGrange County Prosecuting Attorney, Travis J. Glick

Justice was delayed—but not denied.

Gregory Kurzawski – 38 Years – LaGrange Superior Court

On February 27, 2026, Gregory Kurzawski appeared for a sentencing hearing in the LaGrange Superior Court. After reviewing the pre-sentence investigation report, hearing a statement from the victim, and considering arguments from the State, Prosecuting Attorney Travis J. Glick, and defense counsel, the Court entered convictions on one count of Attempted Robbery and one count of Attempted Aggravated Battery. Kurzawski’s sentence was enhanced based on his status as a habitual offender, resulting in a total executed sentence of 38 years.

✨ Just as one event wraps up, we’re already planning the next! ✨

On Wednesday, October 1, 2025, we’ll be marching to support early literacy at the LaGrange County Corn School Festival in our Kids United Parade—and we need your support! 📚🎉

The Kids United Parade is a beloved tradition that brings families and local youth together for a fun evening filled with costumes, community, and celebration. But most importantly, it raises critical funds for READ UNITED, our early literacy program that places volunteers in kindergarten through 2nd grade classrooms and provides new books for classroom libraries.

📖 In 2024, sponsors helped us raise $8,000 to fuel this work. This year, we’re ready to grow our impact and help even more children discover the joy of reading.

As a sponsor, your organization will:

Have your logo featured on parade T-shirts and donated classroom books

Be recognized throughout the event

Make a lasting difference for children in our communities.

Sponsorships range from $500–$2,500. Deadline: August 30, 2025.

👉 To sponsor, text CORNSPONSOR25 to 40403 or visit: www.crossroadsuw.org/events

Together, let’s help every child open the pages to possibility. 💙
