Friends of MIP

Friends of MIP Supporting Orange County's first public school Mandarin Immersion Program to be held at Marian Bergeson Elementary School in Laguna Niguel, CA.

Friends of MIP is the non-profit parent organization created to advocate for and support the establishment of a Mandarin Immersion Program in the Capistrano Unified School District. Friends of MIP’s primary goal is to raise funds to support the programs in MIP that are not funded by normal school district funds. Friends of MIP also strives to increase communication, creates a strong parent community, and encourages everyone to have fun and embrace the Chinese language and culture.

The Year of the Horse Art Contest was an incredible success, with an overwhelming turnout and so much student excitement. From bold brushstrokes to thoughtful details, creativity was on full display.

What a ROARING way to celebrate Lunar New Year at Bergeson!

Our 5th graders brought the energy with traditional lion dancers.The drums echoed through the halls, and you could feel the excitement building as the lions leaped, blinked, and danced their way across the breezeway bringing good luck for the year ahead.

In Chinese culture, the lion dance symbolizes good luck, strength, and driving away negative energy, our students were ALL smiles!

Moments like this remind us how special it is to celebrate culture together as a school community. ❤️

Join us this Saturday, February 21 (3–5 PM) at The Shops at Mission Viejo for a CUSD MIP-only showcase featuring 80+ student performers from Bergeson, Newhart, and CVHS!

Enjoy an afternoon of incredible performances:
🎶 Songs · 🪭 Fan Dances · 🦁 Lion Dancing · 🪀 Chinese Yo-Yo · 🥋 Martial Arts · 🎻 Instrumental Music

Today is a big day for CUSD’s Mandarin Immersion Program out in our community! 🎉 Come out to support our MIP Ambassadors ring in the Lunar New Year season at two incredible events:

➡️ 2026 LUNAR NEW YEAR PARADE & FESTIVAL (Great Park, Irvine)
• 11am -12 pm: See Bergeson / MIP and our Lion Dancers in parade segment — FREE! 🥁
• 2:15pm: Don’t miss our 3rd-5th MIP Ambassadors and Lion Dancers perform on the Great Park Live stage — $2 for festival entry 🎟️

➡️ LUCKY LUNAR FEST 2026 (Macy’s South Coast Plaza, Costa Mesa)
• 1-3pm: Stop by our CUSD MIP booth for program info and a free LNY horse craft 🐴
• 2:30 pm: Ambassador TK-2nd song and dance performances 🎶
• Event is FREE!

The toughest part about today? Choosing which performance to go to! It’s going to be a bright Lunar New Year season! ✨🧧🪭🐎
