Good afternoon, Laguna Vista!
Here's a look at what we can expect over the next five days.
While daytime high temperatures are forecast to remain in the low to mid-90s, our high humidity will make it feel considerably hotter. Afternoon heat index values are expected to range from approximately 102° to 108°F each day, especially during the peak heating hours between 1:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m.
In addition to the heat:
🌦️ Expect a daily chance of scattered showers and thunderstorms, mainly during the afternoon and evening hours.
⚡ Any storm that develops could produce brief heavy rainfall, frequent lightning, gusty winds, and localized street flooding.
💨 Breezy southeast winds will continue through the weekend, which may provide some relief but can also contribute to rapidly changing weather conditions.
Heat Safety Tips
💧 Drink plenty of water—even if you don't feel thirsty.
🧢 Wear lightweight, light-colored clothing and limit strenuous outdoor activities during the hottest part of the day.
🚗 Never leave children or pets unattended in a vehicle, even for a few minutes.
👵 Please check on elderly neighbors, family members, and anyone who may not have adequate air conditioning.
🐾 Ensure pets have plenty of fresh water and access to shade.
The Laguna Vista Department of Public Safety will continue monitoring weather conditions and will provide updates if any watches, advisories, or warnings are issued.
A Few Additional Heat Safety Reminders
🐾 Pet owners: Be cautious when walking your pets. Pavement, sidewalks, and even artificial turf can become extremely hot during the afternoon hours and may burn your pet's paws. If the pavement is too hot for the back of your hand for 7 seconds, it's too hot for their feet. Whenever possible, walk your pets early in the morning or later in the evening, and make sure they have plenty of fresh water.
⛳ Golfers: We know many of you enjoy spending time on the course. Please take extra precautions during this stretch of hot weather. Stay well hydrated, seek shade whenever possible, wear light-colored clothing and a hat, and pay attention to signs of heat exhaustion such as dizziness, excessive sweating, weakness, nausea, or confusion.
👧 Children: Kids can become overheated much faster than adults. If your children are playing outside, encourage frequent water breaks, limit strenuous activity during the hottest part of the day, and make sure they come inside to cool off regularly. Never leave a child unattended in a parked vehicle, even for a short time.
The Laguna Vista Department of Public Safety wants everyone to enjoy the outdoors safely. A few simple precautions can help prevent heat-related illnesses and keep you, your family, and your pets safe during this period of extreme heat.
Stay cool, stay hydrated, and take care of one another, Laguna Vista!
