5/5/26: PPL Live Line electrical demonstration: This weeks training Maplewood hosted the live line trailer.
PPL’s Live Line Electrical Safety Demonstration is a mobile, 7,200-volt educational exhibit designed by PPL Electric Utilities to showcase the dangers of electricity. Trained staff simulate accidents using, live power lines, poles, and transformers, demonstrating hazards like Mylar balloons, tree branches, and downed lines touching cars.
Fire, Rescue and EMS personnel from Maplewood, Hamlin, Ledgedale, Lakeville, Waymart and Northern Wayne attended the very informative presentation.

4/28/26: Aerial operations, Flying the Aerial:
68 Ladder operators and Team members spent this weeks training night practicing Safe and Effective Aerial Ladder Operations with our Tower Ladder.
It is critical that operators are confident in their own abilities for Aerial ladder placement and operations.
When every second counts, as an aerial ladder arrives on a fire or rescue scene, the operator must be able to immediately calculate the placement of the ladder.
The apparatus chauffeur has one opportunity to position correctly, if the operator parks incorrectly, the aerial may not reach, rendering it useless. It is for this reason we practice the same skills and techniques repetitively.
Maplewood operators and crew members that work around the aerial must possess a firm Understanding of strategic positioning, robust stabilization, and precise movement for rescue, fire attack, and ventilation. Key practices include setting up with full stabilizer extension (avoiding "short-jacking" if possible), aiming for vertical stability to reduce stress, and ensuring the "scrub area" (distance for ladder operation) is clear. The aerial device is a unique and highly specialized piece of firefighting and rescue equipment. After training concluded the team gather in the kitchen to partake in a birthday cake for President Bill Warnock, and Cadet firefighter Dayton Fink.
The ICE HOUSE takes great pride in training diligently to be a reliable resource for our community, our neighboring fire departments and communities as well.

4/14/26: CPR, stop the bleed refresher training and a work session on our utility truck:
For some time we have wanted to make our utility truck more functional at brush fires, tree down calls and other incidents the utility typically handled. We all know the purchase price of brand new pickup trucks has skyrocketed close to $100,000 dollars, add in if it is up fitted to be fire apparatus and the price balloons out of sight. The decision was made to save considerable money over purchasing a replacement truck since our ford cab and chassis was in good condition. The process was to remove the factory bed and replace it with an aluminum flatbed with side compartments. We are extremely blessed to have such an incredible team of dedicated and talented volunteers to complete the transformation by handling much of the work at no cost.
The ICE HOUSE crew would like to thank Maureen Barry for donating a delicious pulled pork dinner.

4/12/26: Maplewood Fire & Rescue company members participated in a Pump operations 1 class hosted by the Waymart Fire department.
This Bucks County Community College 16-hour Pump Operations 1 course is designed to introduce firefighters to basic pump construction, water hydraulics, and safe operating techniques, featuring both classroom and practical field training. The course emphasizes getting water into the pump and discharging it effectively. Our Assistant Chief Steve Piotrowski is an instructor for the college and presented an excellent program. The ICE HOUSE appreciates Chief 75 and the Waymart Fire Company for sponsoring the training.

Maplewood Fire and Rescue Company is extremely grateful to our wonderful Pennsylvania state representative Jeff Olsommer and his staff for helping us with obtaining the title and registration for 68 Ladder. The fire department that owned it previously was in Connecticut, which does not title emergency vehicles in the same manner as Pennsylvania. when our notary submitted it to Harrisburg it was returned. We brought all the paperwork to Representative Olsommer's office and they were able to get it handled quickly and efficiently. Many of our residents may not be aware that your elected officials and their staff can assist with many different types of issues. How you vote does matter.
Thank you Representative Olsommer for all your support.
