I’m sharing Welsh’s post. It’s a good reminder of what many small towns are dealing with beneath the ground.

I know the construction, road work, and water line projects can be frustrating. I think we all grumble.

But we’re fortunate. Thanks to grant funding and state investment, we’re replacing aging infrastructure and improving our roads. Not every small town gets that opportunity.

The inconvenience is temporary. The improvements will benefit Lake Arthur for years to come.

This is a piece of six inch water line that was cut for repair today. Our water department works daily to try and get clean water to our customers but it is not always easy with our old rusted lines.

A Quick Civics Lesson: How a Lawrason Act Town Government Works

In a Louisiana Lawrason Act municipality, the Mayor, Town Council, and Chief of Police are elected separately by the people. Each has distinct responsibilities established by state law.

• The Mayor is the chief executive officer and oversees the day-to-day administration of the town and its employees.

• The Town Council is the legislative body. The council adopts ordinances, approves the budget, and provides oversight of the town’s finances and policies.

• The Chief of Police is an independently elected official who has authority over the day-to-day operations of the police department, as provided by Louisiana law.

No elected official is the boss of another elected official.

The Mayor does not answer to the Town Council. The Town Council does not answer to the Mayor. The Chief of Police does not answer to either the Mayor or the Town Council in carrying out the day-to-day operations of the police department.

Each has powers and responsibilities that sometimes overlap, requiring cooperation and accountability. The system is designed with checks and balances so that no one elected official has complete control.

Ultimately, the Mayor, Town Council, and Chief of Police all answer to the same people: the citizens who elected them.

A post I made on my personal page about a shopping cart sparked more discussion than I expected. Some people took it literally, and that’s cool.

But the message was never really about a buggy.

It’s about something bigger.

There will always be good reasons and understandable exceptions. But exceptions don’t define the standard.

A strong community is built on people who choose to do the right thing, not because they have to, but because they believe it’s the right thing to do. It’s built on personal responsibility, self reliance, and taking pride in the place we call home.

The point was never the cart.

The point was whether we still believe in doing the right thing simply because it’s the right thing to do.

My family and I enjoy riding our golf cart around Lake Arthur, and we're thankful that our community has an ordinance that allows golf carts to be operated on town streets.

Recently, there have been public safety concerns involving underage operators and unauthorized utility vehicles being driven on our streets. Our golf cart ordinance was put in place to promote safety for everyone on our roads. Being able to drive a golf cart on town streets is a privilege, not a right, and the best way to preserve that privilege is for all of us to follow the rules and look out for one another.

To legally operate a golf cart on Town streets, it must have:
• A licensed driver
• A rearview mirror
• Working headlights
• Working tail lights and brake lights
• Working turn signals
• A working horn
• Be operated only from sunup to sundown
• State minimum liability insurance (15/30/25).
• A current Lake Arthur Golf Cart Permit

Golf cart permits are available through the Lake Arthur Police Department following a brief inspection of the golf cart and verification of insurance at an annual cost of $50.

Side-by-side utility vehicles are not permitted for general public or recreational use on Town streets.

Thank you to everyone who already follows the ordinance and helps keep our community safe. If you have any comments, concerns, or need to report a public safety issue, please contact Chief Jared Thomas and the Lake Arthur Police Department at (337) 774-2411.

WOW — we had an incredible response to the patriotic flag sponsorship idea! 🇺🇸

We only originally had 8 flag spots available, but with 50+ people already expressing interest, it’s clear this means a lot to our community.

We’re brainstorming ways to include as many families and loved ones as possible, so hang tight while we work through some options. We want to make this special and as fair as possible.

Thank you all for the overwhelming support for making Main Street even more patriotic! ❤️🤍

Stay tuned for updates!

***UPDATE*** Please see newest post.

🇺🇸NEW LOOK COMING TO TOWN!🇺🇸

Be on the lookout for our beautiful new banners going up on every other light pole in Lake Arthur for the 250th celebration! A huge thank you to the Lake Arthur Women’s Library Club for donating these banners to our town.

To complete the look, I want to fill the alternating empty poles with American flags. I am looking into opening up a very limited number of annual sponsorships for these flags, where you could dedicate a flag to a loved one or veteran with a custom plaque mounted right on the pole.

Before I finalize everything, I want to gauge community interest!

Would you or your family be interested in sponsoring a flag to honor someone special? Drop a comment below to let me know! 👇 (Check out our new banners!)
