Lake Benton Fire Department

Lake Benton Fire Department Meetings are held on the 1st Wednesday of each month at 7 p.m. The oldest service organization in Lake Benton is the local volunteer fire department.

Lake Benton Fire Department was organized January 10, 1893. Today, the department is comprised of citizens of Lake Benton who volunteer their services to provide top-notch fire protection to the city and the surrounding service area. Each volunteer fireman spends at least one evening a month attending meetings and training sessions. In addition to this training, they also attend two fire schools

and five regional fire meetings. Department members have also received hazardous materials training. Pat McCarthy is the present fire chief of the Lake Benton Fire Department.

Corn harvest is going to be in full swing the next two weeks we ask our local farmers to take some extra precautions. Please have some sort of tillage implement nearby, blow your combine and tractors off, and grease your bearings looking for faulty ones. The little things can solve big problems down the road. Also if you have tillage equipment available in case of emergency please let us know via messenger with your phone #. Have a safe harvest.

"And Yet Still, We Volunteer"
I tried to save this child, but he's met his fate.
His innocent eyes are void of hate.
He and his father weren't walking far,
When they were both struck down by a drunkard's car.
This night I know I will not sleep.
These terrible images my mind will keep.
I know these nightmares linger near.
And yet still, I volunteer.
Her eyes well up - compress the chest,
Say a silent prayer - then two quick breaths.
She's done this many times before,
This fight for life kneeling on the floor.
But this time it's her best friend's mom,
Whose lifeless body she is working on.
This call like others will end in tears,
And yet still, she volunteers.
From slumber woke by a siren's wail,
He rushes out in a bitter gale.
While others sleep this stormy night,
A raging blaze this man will fight.
Bravely putting himself in danger,
To save the home of a total stranger.
Body cold and tired, he feels his years,
And yet still, he volunteers.
We train, we test, we do our best.
We give an awful lot of time.
And don't get paid a single dime.
“Thanks” is a word we seldom hear.
And yet still, we volunteer.
Author: Eric Levdahl
It’s been said up to 75% of the fire service worldwide is voluntary / unpaid service.
May God richly bless those brothers and sisters who VOLUNTEER... despite what you may hear from haters; you are the backbone of the fire service.

Huge shout out to the Pipestone Fire Department for bringing their aerial truck to Lake Benton tonight. We had a great training along with Arco Fire Department and Tyler Fire Dept. These mutual trainings are amazing and need to happen more often, the knowledge we gained will help us utilize the resources we didn't know we had to help protect our surrounding community! Stay tuned hopefully more videos and pictures to come.
