Financial literacy becomes a lot more meaningful when students can see how it connects to real life. 💚

Congratulations to Mrs. Heather Komac, who has been selected as a recipient of the Consumers Credit Union Cooperative Association Financial Literacy Champion Grant following a nomination from Lake Bluff School District 65 Superintendent Dr. Lisa Leali!

In Mrs. Komac’s MPA classroom, students do more than talk about budgeting, credit cards, and paychecks. They experience what those decisions can look like in everyday life. They might decorate a freshman dorm room while learning about credit, “move out” for their first job while managing a paycheck and budget, or pull a random event card that suddenly tells them their rent went up 15% or that Chipotle is a must for dinner. 😄

For Mrs. Komac, the goal is helping students see why the math they learn matters and how their learning across subjects connects to life beyond the classroom.

The $1,000 grant recognizes that work and includes $500 to support classroom expenses.

Congratulations, Mrs. Komac, and thank you for helping students build skills they can carry with them long after they leave school! 👏

Sixth grade is a big year.

New routines. New expectations. More independence. And a whole lot of growth packed into one school year.

That’s where this team comes in. 💚

Our LBMS 6th Grade Team is there to challenge students, encourage them, help them build confidence and make that transition into middle school feel a little less overwhelming.

Sixth grade families, current or former: What’s something a member of this team has done that made a difference for your student?

We’d love to hear it in the comments.

First grade is a year of big growth in little moments. 💚

It’s reading a new word independently. Solving a problem that felt tricky yesterday. Raising a hand with more confidence. Making a new friend. Realizing, “I can do this.”

Our LBES 1st Grade Team gets to be there for all of it, helping students build the skills, confidence and curiosity that will carry them far beyond this school year.

First grade families, finish this sentence for us: “This year, I hope my first grader discovers…”

There are some teachers students remember long after middle school, and often, they’re the ones who helped them discover something they didn’t know they loved. 🎨🎶

Our LBMS Fine Arts Team gives students space to create, perform, experiment, build confidence, and express themselves in ways that don’t always happen anywhere else in the school day.

We’re grateful for the energy, encouragement, and creativity they bring to LBMS.

Families and former students, help us celebrate them: What is a favorite Fine Arts memory, class, performance, or teacher that has stuck with you? 💚

"It's not just our fault. You bought the devices, you have to help us navigate the mess you created."

No one handed parents a playbook for raising children in a world of smartphones, social media, and constant connectivity.

We're all learning as we go.

But this reflection is an important reminder that children shouldn't be expected to navigate the digital world alone.

They need guidance. They need boundaries. Most of all, they need us.
