A warm and humid pattern is settling into the region for this week. The highest heat index values (greater than 100F) will be along and south of I-80, especially Tuesday and Wednesday. Occasional showers and storms will move through areas north of I-80, as well.

Last week, Lake Bluff Fire Department had the pleasure of making a special visit to a young Lake Bluff resident and a Make-A-Wish recipient who LOVES fire trucks!

Our crews stopped by with the fire engine for a visit, and his excitement made the day just as special for us.

⛈️ Severe storms can knock out your power. If you plan to use a portable generator to keep your refrigerator or freezer running, make sure you’re using it safely!

⚡ Always operate generators outdoors and away from windows, doors, and vents to prevent deadly carbon monoxide (CO) from entering your home.

🔌 Never plug a generator directly into a wall outlet. Use properly rated extension cords and connect appliances directly to the generator.

🚨 Keep generators dry and allow them to cool before refueling.

Stay safe before, during, and after the storm! A generator can help keep the power on but only when used safely.

This Saturday is Race Day! Important things to note:

1. There is no parking along the race course on 7/25/26. Please move all cars the night before or prepare for a ticket and tow in the morning. No parking signs on the course and neighboring roadways will be placed Thursday-Friday.

2. Fencing of the course starts at 8am with intermittent closures. W. Scranton cut off will shut down sometime between 8am and 9am.

3. Downtown Central Business District road closures start 6AM!

4. ALL RACE ROADWAYS CLOSE AT 945AM!!! If you live on or inside the course, you WILL NOT be able to get in or out by vehicle until after racing and cleanup concludes, estimated 9PM! NO EXCEPTIONS! Please plan to move your vehicles well outside the race course by 9am Saturday if you need to travel.

5. Parking is limited to one side of the street on Washington, Woodland, North, Gurney, and parts of Scranton and Prospect. Signs will be posted.

6. Please be aware of many cyclists in town, using side streets for warmups, or spectators riding to the race, please be courteous and share the roads.

7. Parking at the train depot is free all day!

Temperatures are expected to reach the 90s this week. Stay hydrated, limit time outdoors, and seek shade or air conditioning whenever possible.

Please check on elderly family members and neighbors, and never leave kids or pets unattended in your vehicle.

If you or someone you know is experiencing a heat-related emergency, call 9-1-1 immediately.
