Impact Lake Charles AmeriCorps, sponsored by the Corporation for National Community Service and the City of Lake Charles, focuses primarily on providing health and safety education to the community. ILCA currently provides health and safety education to students in grades K-5 at Barbe, Johnson and Fairview Elementary. Members also provide education such as safe sleep and fire safety in partnership

with the Safe Sleep Task Force, Red Cross of SWLA, Lake Charles Fire Department and Safe Kids Lake Charles. This program also provides much needed assistance with community service projects throughout the Lake Area. Members receive training in many areas, which include First Aid/CPR, conflict resolution, team building, diversity appreciation and preparation for the work force. AmeriCorps engages more than 75,000 Americans in intensive service each year at nonprofits, schools, public agencies, and community and faith-based groups across the country. Since the program’s founding in 1994, more than 900,000 AmeriCorps members have contributed more than 1.2 billion hours in service across America while tackling pressing problems and mobilizing millions of volunteers for the organizations they serve.
