On Thursday, June 4th, 2026, at 4:52 PM, the Lake Charles Police Department was assigned to the Ward 3 Recreation Center on Power Centre Parkway, for a shooting that occurred in the parking lot area.

During the subsequent investigation, it was learned one victim had been shot and transported to a local hospital for treatment. The victim’s injuries are thought to be non-life threatening.

Detectives learned the shooter, Nastassajia Vonlove Simon, 39, of Lake Charles, brought her 17-year-old daughter to the Recreation Center with the intent for her daughter to engage in a physical altercation with another 17-year-old.

During the physical altercation between 17-year-olds, Simon produced a gun and fired a shot, striking an innocent bystander. There were numerous adults and children present in the parking lot at the time of the shooting.

Simon fled the scene after the shooting. With the assistance of the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office Real Time Crime Center, Simon was located in the 1300 block of Goos Boulevard a short time later and arrested without incident.

Nastassajia Vonlove Simon was booked into the Calcasieu Correctional Center on charges of negligent injuring, illegal use of weapons or dangerous instrumentalities, and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. Bond has not been set at this time.

Officer Marti McCracken completed the initial offense report.

Evidence Officer Bethany Perkins processed the scene.
