Twenty years ago, Columbia County took a major step forward in strengthening fire protection for our community.On June 12, 2006, the first full-time paid personnel worked their inaugural 24-hour shift alongside the dedicated volunteers who had already established a proud tradition of service throughout Columbia County.
Tonight, we had the honor of celebrating that milestone with a 20-year anniversary gathering. The evening brought together many of the brothers who helped build this department—some who have since retired and others who have continued their careers with departments across the country.
We were especially honored to welcome our first Fire Chief, Tres Atkinson, who made the trip from South Carolina, where he now serves as Chief of Dorchester County Fire Rescue.
It was a special evening filled with memories, laughter, and reunions. While much has changed over the past two decades, one thing has remained constant—the brotherhood and commitment to serving others.
To the citizens of Columbia County, thank you for placing your trust in us over the last 20 years. It has been our privilege to serve this community, and we look forward to continuing that mission for many years to come.
Thank you to everyone who helped make this celebration possible. As we often say, it's never goodbye—it's simply, "see you later."
