🚨 UPDATED PHONE SCAM ALERT – COLUMBIA COUNTY 🚨

We have received reports of a new phone scam involving Social Security information.

The fraudulent caller claims to be a ranking official of the Columbia County Sheriff's Office and states that your Social Security number has been found on the dark web. They will then request personal and financial information from you in order to "verify that your accounts are safe."

Please keep the following in mind:

If you receive one of these calls, hang up immediately. The Sheriff's Office will never contact you by phone to request personal or financial information. If there is ever a legitimate issue with your Social Security number, the Social Security Administration will notify you by mail or ask you to visit your local office in person.

Never provide personal or financial information to someone who has called you. If you have any concerns about your accounts, contact your financial institution directly.

Stay vigilant and help us spread the word! 🔒
