A Florence School District Three Board of Trustees member, Dr. Mims serves as a pharmacist, while her husband, Dr. Albert Mims, practices family medicine. “Conjunction Junction, what’s your function?”

For 5th-grade students in Ms. Va’tia Davis’s classroom at Street Elementary School of Arts & Leadership , learning about conjunctions came to life through hands-on practice and collaboration.

Students created their own sentences, shared them on the board, and worked together to identify conjunctions and check punctuation. They also discussed sentence structure and explained their thinking to their classmates.

What made the lesson special was the way students learned from one another. They listened, shared ideas, encouraged each other, and celebrated each other’s work.

With Ms. Davis’s encouragement and support, students gained confidence in sharing their ideas and growing as writers.

That’s Stronger Together in action......students learning, collaborating, and finding their voices together.
