At this week's City Council meeting, we welcomed Captain Zach Matthews to the Lake Dallas Police Department with a ceremonial swearing-in and badge pinning.

On January 28, 2024, at approximately 03:13 hours, Sergeant Weir responded to a welfare concern involving an individual sitting on the overpass ledge near I-35 Southbound at the 459 mile marker. Upon arrival, Officers observed the subject rocking back and forth on the ledge. Due to her body positioning and the object in her arms, Officers believed she was preparing to jump from the overpass and that she may have been holding a small child.

Recognizing the imminent threat to human life, Sergeant Weir ensured traffic lanes were clear to prevent secondary hazards and immediately maneuvered across the center median to approach the subject from the rear. As other Officers approached from the opposite direction, Sergeant Weir closed the distance, wrapped both arms around the subject, and forcefully pulled her away from the overpass ledge and to the ground, preventing her from jumping.

The subject was safely detained without injury. Subsequent investigation confirmed she was not holding a child; however, at the time of intervention, Sergeants reasonably believed both the subject and a potential child were at immediate risk of death.

Sergeant Weir's decisive action, physical courage, situational awareness, and willingness to place himself in danger were directly responsible for preventing the loss of life.

In recognition of these heroic actions, Chief Robb presented Sgt. Weir with a Life Saving Award at last night's City Council meeting. Congratulations, Sgt. Weir!

Vandalism is not a victimless crime; it affects every community member's ability to enjoy public resources, and places an undue burden on the workers who supply and maintain this equipment.

SCHOOL ZONE SYSTEM TESTING 🚸🚨

School Zones within Lake Dallas city limits will begin flashing Friday, August 7 in preparation for the 2026-2027 school year, to give drivers time to adjust before classes start. Flashing will continue next Monday and Tuesday before the official first day of school on Wednesday, August 12.

Please obey all posted signage, and remain attentive and cautious when traveling through School Zones.

Traffic Advisory – Railroad Crossings

Due to a train-related incident on Swisher Road, residents should expect trains to move at reduced speeds through Lake Dallas railroad crossings for the next several hours as operational and safety procedures are completed.

Motorists are encouraged to:

- Allow extra travel time.
- Be prepared for longer-than-normal delays at railroad crossings.
- Never attempt to drive around lowered crossing gates or cross the tracks until it is safe to do so.

Yesterday, some of our officers stopped by Jillian's lemonade stand for a refreshing break from the Texas heat. Thanks to her lemonade-making skills, they were recharged and ready to finish out the day!

We're always proud to support the young entrepreneurs in our community, and we'd say Jillian has a pretty solid business model. 😉

A big thank you to Jillian for the delicious lemonade and the warm hospitality!
