Lake Forest Police Foundation

Lake Forest Police Foundation The Lake Forest Police Foundation was formed as a 501(c)3 non-profit organization to support the important work of the Lake Forest Police Department.

The Foundation’s Role

The LFPF recognizes that more than 85% of the Department’s annual budget is devoted to personnel cost, leaving little flexibility to develop innovative programs, keep pace with rapidly evolving technology, purchase specialized equipment, or implement new programs. The role of the Foundation is not to supplant funding for basic law enforcement services, nor to reduce the resp

onsibility of the City of Lake Forest in any way to commit the necessary funding for law enforcement services for its citizens. LFPF’s goal is to form a public-private partnership that provides financial support for important, un-budgeted, or discretionary needs that promise to improve crime prevention, enhance professional development, and encourage citizen participation to enrich public safety. Goals

The Lake Forest Police Foundation was created to improve public safety and law enforcement in the Lake Forest community. Our goal is to act as an independent and unique affiliate for the Lake Forest Police Department by providing resources to:

•Keep pace with rapidly-changing technology
•Foster innovation
•Meet time-sensitive needs
•Leadership training and development
•Officer safety, wellness and morale
•Crime prevention/crime fighting
•Community partnerships and advocacy

Dear Neighbors,
The Lake Forest Police Foundation is conducting our 2022 Annual Appeal and as a 501(c)3 organization that provides the sole source of private support for the Lake Forest Police Department, we are looking for your help and support to continue our mission of supporting the Lake Forest Police Department.
As the sole source of private support for the Lake Forest Police Department since 2014, we have invested privately raised dollars into Lake Forest Police Department initiatives that promote and facilitate best practices. By doing so, we have both expanded its capabilities, and strengthened its police-community relationships.

The Lake Forest Police Foundation has funded a variety of projects such as: Police-CROYA activities, provided early De-escalation Training to officers, purchased Officer First Aid Kits, replaced all department Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs), purchased ballistic shields for squad cars and purchased a dedicated Ford Explorer for the police department K-9 program. Supplemental programs and initiatives made possible with Foundation support directly improve public safety efforts, impact officer readiness, and enhance quality of life in Lake Forest.

We believe that a well-educated and well-equipped police department that is directly invested in the community creates a safer, strong Lake Forest. With your help, we can make a difference.

Please join our giving community by making a financial contribution to the Foundation. Your donation will support the LFPD and our community.

To make your 100% tax deductible contribution, please complete the enclosed pledge card or visit our website at www.lakeforestpolicefoundation.org.

With your support, we can and will continue to make a difference! Thank you in advance for your consideration.

Sincerely,
The Lake Forest Police Foundation Board of Directors

Important information for residents of Lake Forest and surrounding areas in Lake County.

Important information for residents of Lake Forest and surrounding areas in Lake County.

The Lake Forest Police Department would like to make residents aware and vigilant of several Ruse Burglary incidents in Lake Forest and surrounding areas. A Ruse Burglary begins with the suspects typically looking for elderly residents as victims. Once located, the suspects approach the resident either outside or by knocking on the front door. The suspects often claim to be utility workers, city employees, or contractors. The suspects will then gain entry to the residence using a ruse that they need to check for a potential problem such as bacteria in the water, check utility lines in the back yard, or check electrical outlets.

Once inside the home, one of the suspects will keep the victim distracted in a specific area or lure them outside of the residence. While the homeowner is distracted, additional suspects enter the home and commit theft, targeting cash and jewelry. They target bedrooms, dressers, closets, and small safes.

The suspects often wear a safety vest, lanyard with an ID, and a hat with a face mask to disguise their identity. Suspects will often communicate using handheld radios and are known to drive SUVs and trucks with no markings.

Safety Tips:

• Consider placing your jewelry in locations other than main dressers in bedrooms
• If a solicitor comes to your residence, try to take notice of the vehicle they are driving (make, model, color, type) as well as their attire and physical characteristics
• Do not allow people into your home unless you know them personally or if they have an appointment
• If you choose to speak with a solicitor or utility worker, never leave your front door unlocked or
unattended
• You can verify with the utility company or local government agency if the individual was sent to your residence.

• Share these tips with elderly family members, friends, and neighbors since these crimes occur across Chicagoland.

If you feel you are the victim of a ruse burglary or you have seen suspicious vehicles and persons
approaching elderly neighbors, please contact the Lake Forest Police Department by calling 911 immediately to report these incidents.
