Warren County STOP DWI Program STOP-DWI stands for "Special Traffic Options Program for Driving While Intoxicated".

The STOP-DWI Program was enacted by the State Legislature in 1981 for the purposes of empowering county governments to coordinate local efforts to reduce alcohol and other drug-related traffic crashes within the context of a comprehensive and financially self-sustaining alcohol and highway safety program. The Glens Falls Police Department utilizes our Bicycle Patrol Unit to patrol local bike paths and other areas that may be difficult to access with traditional patrol vehicles. Our bicycle officers are also deployed at special events throughout the City, allowing for increased mobility, enhanced community engagement, and a more visible police presence.

Leandra Rosado was an 11-year-old girl whose tragic death inspired New York’s Leandra’s Law.

Leandra’s Law makes it an automatic felony to drive while intoxicated or drug-impaired with a child aged 15 or younger in the vehicle, even on a first offense. New York enacted the law in 2009 after the death of 11-year-old Leandra Rosado, and it carries penalties ranging from up to four years in prison for a first offense to 25 years if a child is killed. Beyond the criminal case itself, a conviction triggers mandatory ignition interlock requirements, a report to the state’s child abuse registry, and lasting consequences for professional licenses and international travel.
