*History About Our Quaint Town*
Lake George began as a lumber settlement in the 1880's. It was founded by George Lake, YES you guessed it our lake is named after him. The creator of the initial seven-mile-long logging railroad, WinfieldScott Gerrish is credited with revolutionizing lumbering in Michigan. The railroad went from Lake George to the Muskegon River. The post office was established on
December 8, 1899 with Edward J. Roys as the first postmaster.
*The Area Around our Peaceful Community*
The area is mostly wooded land with a variety of wildlife, including white-tail deer, wild turkey, pheasant, bobcat, bear, flying squirrels and SO many more critters . Fishing is very popular in the area with numerous lakes (20 within a 20-mile radius) containing largemouth bass, perch, bluegill, sunfish, pike, musky, bullhead catfish, and rock bass. The small town also neighbors with Shingle Lake, which has a boat ramp, fishing docks, playground and picnic areas.
