ALA FL Unit 127 Lake Helen - Cassadaga

ALA FL Unit 127 Lake Helen - Cassadaga For God and Country, we advocate for veterans, educate our citizens, mentor youth, and promote patriotism, good citizenship, peace and security.

We are one of the nation’s most prominent supporters of veterans, military, and their families. We help to advance the mission of The American Legion. From helping to draft the GI Bill in 1944 to advocating for veterans on Capitol Hill, the nonpartisan American Legion Family is instrumental in advancing legislation that improves the quality of life for our nation’s veterans and servicemembers. In

the spirit of Service, Not Self, the mission of the American Legion Auxiliary is to support The American Legion and to honor the sacrifice of those who serve by enhancing the lives of our veterans, military, and their families, both at home and abroad.

Volusia County Seeks Nominations for Honor a Veteran Program

AI-generated content may be incorrect.VOLUSIA COUNTY, FLORIDA – The Volusia Values Veterans Program (V3P) is accepting nominations for the inaugural Honor a Veteran recognition program, which celebrates veterans who continue their legacy of service beyond military duty by supporting fellow veterans and strengthening the broader community.

V3P is a countywide initiative dedicated to honoring, supporting, and strengthening the lives of the more than 50,000 veterans who call Volusia County home.

"Volusia County is home to an incredible community of veterans who continue to serve long after they've taken off the uniform," said Scott Olson, director of Volusia County Veterans Services. "We are deeply grateful for their sacrifices and ongoing commitment to making our community stronger. The Honor a Veteran program allows us to publicly recognize these exceptional individuals and show them just how much we value their service – both past and present."

Nominees must be honorably discharged members of the U.S. Armed Forces, current Volusia County residents, and still actively engaged in serving their community. Residents, organizations, and fellow veterans are encouraged to submit nominations recognizing those who have made significant contributions through volunteer work, advocacy, mentorship, or other community service.

A committee of veterans will review all nominations and select the recipient, who will be honored with a proclamation at a County Council meeting.

Nomination forms and complete eligibility criteria are available at www.volusia.org/honoravet. The deadline for submissions is April 1.

Join us at the Volusia Values Veterans Employee Luncheon as we honor those who have answered the call to serve both our country and our community.

Throughout the year, and especially during the holiday season, the American Legion Auxiliary Unit #127 worked tirelessly to raise funds and collect essential supplies in support of local homeless veterans. Each backpack is thoughtfully assembled with care, gratitude, and generosity, and includes items such as socks, hats, gloves, scarves, blankets, raincoats, emergency blankets, personal hygiene kits, first-aid supplies, facial tissues, flashlights, sleeping bags, aluminum water bottles, handwritten “Thank You, Veteran” cards, and a variety of snacks.

This season of giving is made possible through the generous donations and unwavering support of our community. Orangetheory Fitness in South DeLand helped spread holiday cheer through generous snack donations, while Tractor Supply in Osteen contributed additional vital cold-weather items to help ensure our homeless veterans stay warm and protected during the winter months. These contributions reflect the true spirit of the holidays—compassion, service, and community.

To ensure these efforts reach those who need them most, Volusia County Veterans Services coordinated the pickup of the completed backpacks, and the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs will distribute each filled backpack to all 51 homeless veterans in Volusia County this season.

Together, during this season of hope and goodwill, and with the dedication of our volunteers, community partners, and veteran service organizations, Unit #127 proudly honors and uplifts our local heroes. Through these collective efforts, we reaffirm our commitment that no homeless veteran is forgotten or left behind—especially during the holidays.

Lake Helen kids spreading Christmas cheer, one card at a time.

The children of Lake Helen came together to help create Christmas cards and letters for our sailors serving in the Mediterranean. Their efforts resulted in 340 Christmas cards, 77 heartfelt letters from home, and 15 pounds of peppermint candy sent to the crew of the USS Bulkeley (DDG-84) for Christmas.

A small town showing big support, reminding our sailors they are remembered, appreciated, and not forgotten this holiday season.
