Throughout the year, and especially during the holiday season, the American Legion Auxiliary Unit #127 worked tirelessly to raise funds and collect essential supplies in support of local homeless veterans. Each backpack is thoughtfully assembled with care, gratitude, and generosity, and includes items such as socks, hats, gloves, scarves, blankets, raincoats, emergency blankets, personal hygiene kits, first-aid supplies, facial tissues, flashlights, sleeping bags, aluminum water bottles, handwritten “Thank You, Veteran” cards, and a variety of snacks.
This season of giving is made possible through the generous donations and unwavering support of our community. Orangetheory Fitness in South DeLand helped spread holiday cheer through generous snack donations, while Tractor Supply in Osteen contributed additional vital cold-weather items to help ensure our homeless veterans stay warm and protected during the winter months. These contributions reflect the true spirit of the holidays—compassion, service, and community.
To ensure these efforts reach those who need them most, Volusia County Veterans Services coordinated the pickup of the completed backpacks, and the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs will distribute each filled backpack to all 51 homeless veterans in Volusia County this season.
Together, during this season of hope and goodwill, and with the dedication of our volunteers, community partners, and veteran service organizations, Unit #127 proudly honors and uplifts our local heroes. Through these collective efforts, we reaffirm our commitment that no homeless veteran is forgotten or left behind—especially during the holidays.
