Due to unforeseen circumstances, the W.A.L.K. 2 T.A.L.K. event scheduled for tomorrow, Friday, August 14, in “The Woods” subdivision has been cancelled.

We appreciate everyone’s understanding and apologize for any inconvenience. A new date in September will be announced and published soon.

On August 11, 2026, at approximately 4:58 a.m., Officer Lacen responded to a residence in the 100 block of North Lakeview Drive regarding a report of an unknown male unlawfully entering their garage and going through vehicles.

Upon arrival, Officer Lacen located a male matching the description provided by the homeowner leaving the property and detained him without incident.

The investigation determined the suspect had allegedly forced entry into the secured garage by removing a window screen and entered two vehicles without the owner’s permission. It was also learned that the suspect entered another residence next door, which is when he was encountered by Officer Lacen leaving the property.

The suspect, identified as Donald Holt Fourson was placed under arrest and charged with Burglary of an Unoccupied Dwelling, Burglary of an Unoccupied Conveyance and Criminal Mischief.
He was transported to the Volusia County Branch Jail without further incident.

We commend Officer Lacen for his quick response and taking the suspect into custody. This case also serves as an important reminder to residents to secure your homes, garages, and vehicles and immediately report any suspicious activity.

🚨 PLEASE SHARE - SCHOOL ZONE SPEED CAMERA REMINDER 🚨

School starts back Monday, August 10th, and the school zone speed cameras will be active again.

⚠️ Important reminder: The cameras are not only enforcing speed while the school zone lights are flashing.

Once the flashing lights stop, the cameras will continue enforcing the posted normal speed limit throughout the remainder of the school day.

✅ When school zone lights are flashing — obey the reduced school zone speed limit.
✅ When the lights stop flashing — obey the posted normal speed limit.
✅ Cameras remain active during school hours on every school day.

Please slow down, stay alert, and help us keep our students, parents, school staff, and crossing guards safe.

🚨 COMMUNITY PARKING NOTICE 🚨

If you haven’t noticed, “No Parking” signs have been installed along Pleasant Street, East Washington Avenue, and Lakeview Drive near Blake Park and the Police Department.

Parking is prohibited on the shoulders of these streets where signs are posted unless specifically authorized for a City-approved event.

Please remember:

• The Blake Park and Equestrian Center parking lots are reserved for residents actively using those facilities—not for general or overflow parking.
• The Police Department parking lot is reserved for individuals conducting business at the department.

Officers will initially focus on warnings and educating the public. However, based on the circumstances, officers retain the discretion to issue a warning or a City ordinance citation. Parking citations carry a $75 fine.

Thank you for your cooperation in helping us keep these areas safe and accessible.

This update is to provide clarification for parents traveling on Kicklighter Rd from Cassadaga area. You may turn left on Pleasant St as well in addition to vehicles turning right traveling from Prevatt Ave.

IVY HAWN CHARTER SCHOOL OF THE ARTS TRAFFIC PATTERN

We hope everyone had a safe and wonderful summer.

Starting Monday, August 10th, to help protect our students, parents, school staff, and motorists, designated drop-off and pick-up routes have been established for use before and after school. These routes are designed to provide a safe and orderly flow of traffic while reducing congestion and the risk of accidents.

Additionally, certain areas have been designated as “No Parking” zones at all times. Please review the designated route and parking restrictions depicted on the referenced map before arriving and follow all posted signs and directions from law enforcement and school personnel.

Parents and guardians are encouraged to follow the designated traffic route when dropping off or picking up students at Ivy Hawn Charter School:

- The green arrows indicate the designated travel route.

- The red lines indicate areas where parking is prohibited from corner to corner.

- Please use the designated school entrance and drop-off/pick-up line accessible from Pleasant Street.

- The designated route is E. Ohio Ave > S. Prevatt Ave > E. Kicklighter Rd. > Pleasant St.

Parking is prohibited in the following areas:

- The Lake Helen Police Department parking lot, except for individuals conducting official police business.

- In or on the property of Blake Park and surrounding areas

- All of South Lakeview Drive, from East and West Ohio Avenue to East Michigan Avenue

- All of East and West Ohio Avenue, from Macy Avenue to South Prevatt Avenue

- All of Pleasant Street, from East Kicklighter Road to East Ohio Avenue

Extended parking is not permitted on Pleasant Street during school hours. Parents may begin lining up on Pleasant Street no earlier than one hour before school dismissal.

Vehicles may not stop within the intersection of East and West Ohio Avenue to drop off or pick up children. Stopping in an intersection creates a serious traffic and pedestrian safety hazard.

By order of the Chief of Police of the City of Lake Helen, vehicles found in violation of applicable parking regulations and stopped in the roadway may be cited and/or towed at the owner’s expense. Police Officers have been instructed to proactively enforce these regulations with ZERO TOLERANCE!
