Friends, thank you so much to everyone who worked so hard alongside us on this campaign, everyone who donated, everyone who volunteered or endorsed, everyone who voted, and everyone who wished us the win from afar. We waited for the votes to be counted before commenting on the race. Every vote deserves to be counted. While it's possible some ballot cure votes may still be returned, the last of the piles of ballots was counted yesterday, and we didn't win the race. However, we are elated to share with you that we came very close to winning Morris County, and our Assembly candidate Diane Salvatore actually did beat Christian Barranco in Morris County. She and Aura Dunn had the highest Assembly vote totals in LD25's Morris County towns. Congrats Diane!
We congratulate our opponents on turning out a few more voters to secure the victory this year. However we'd also remind them, the results aren't a mandate. Voters didn't choose far-right policies, there was simply a victor in the turnout fight. Just to recap:
Christine Clarke was just 955 votes from winning Morris County, and 1,804 in Passaic Co.
Dr. Jon Torres was 158 votes away in Morris Co., and 1,775 away in Passaic Co.
Diane Salvatore won Morris Co., and was 1,735 votes away in Passaic Co.
We ask the returning incumbents to bear in mind when returning to Trenton that serving all of the people, not just the people who agree with you, is important.
As for us - it's not easy to challenge institutional power. The work to have small-d democracy prevail is important work regardless of election outcomes. We're very proud of our entire extended team for the work we did together. Stay involved and stay tuned! We're not sure what's next at this time, but the work will continue. All our best to you and yours, wishing you all safe, joyful and warm happy holidays in coming weeks. Thank you again!
