Serving the community since 1942, JTFD2 was established to be the "Protectors of the Lake".

Jefferson Township Fire Department #2 (JTFD2) is a 100% Volunteer Fire Department which has provided fire and emergency services to the Lake Hopatcong section of Jefferson Township, New Jersey since 1942. JTFD2 responds to a wide variety of emergencies such as Structure Fires, Vehicle Extrications, Hazmat Incidents, Ice Rescue, Marine Firefighting, Search & Rescue, and any other emergencies that m

Members took advantage of the great weather Wednesday to preplan a unique section of our first due area. Raccoon Island is one of the few occupied islands on Lake Hopatcong, accessible only by ferry during the summer. With no direct road access, response operations rely heavily on watercraft.

Crews reviewed access points, ferry procedures, and shuttle operations using Fire Boat 717. Thank you to the Raccoon Island residents for their assistance and support during the walkthrough.

Great day of training! JTFD2 members traveled across town to JTFD1 to participate in a multi‑agency tanker drill. Morris and Sussex County departments worked on water supply operations. Great job by all agencies!

Summer is in full swing on the lake, and JTFD2 responded to multiple calls for service throughout the week. Incidents included an outside fire extending to a structure, a water vessel that ran aground, several MVAs, and general alarms across the township.

In addition to handling calls for service, members proudly escorted the Miss Lotta Veterans cruise around the lake. JTFD2 reminds everyone to enjoy a fun, safe, and responsible summer on and around the water. Life jackets save lives.

MUTUAL AID — 06/17/2026 & 06/18/2026

Busy week for your JTFD2 firefighters. Members assisted Mount Arlington Fire & Rescue and Hopatcong Fire Department with two separate working fires on consecutive days. Crews remained on scene and performed a range of essential fire ground tasks in support of operations.
