TROPICAL DEPRESSION FIVE | The National Weather Service has issued a flood watch for inland Brazoria County. It will begin at 1 am Tuesday and continue until Wednesday morning. We should expect moderate to heavy rainfall. Three to five inches of rain could fall in Lake Jackson. In some areas, expect six to nine inches of rain. The largest amounts should fall east of Lake Jackson. Throughout the event, rainfall rates will exceed three to four inches per hour at times. This amount can lead to flash flooding. Be careful out there, Lake Jackson and watch out for each other.

GRASS IN THE STREETS | It’s summer so we literally see our grass grow. Mowing and grass blowing can be a drag. Even if it is a drag, we want to remind you not to blow the clippings into the street. It can make matters worse. Clippings pile up in the drains. Add those large Texas downpours and clippings can cause street flooding. So we are asking you to compost or bag your clippings. It’s the neighborly thing to do.

UPDATE MONDAY AUG. 31 | All leaks have been repaired. Thank you for your pateince.

ORIGINAL POST
ACTIVE WATER LEAKS AROUND LJ | The city has begun working three active water main leaks that will require much effort to repair. These leaks required the city to locate utility lines and order special parts to begin the work. The leaks are on Walnut Court, Raintree Lane and the 500 block of Oleander Street. We have notified affected residents. The extreme temperatures and dry spells in the region have caused about one or two leak reports per day. We apologize for the inconvenience and hope to have these major leaks completed as soon as possible.

REST IN PEACE DOLLY | Earlier this summer, Dolly opened her first truck stop with an indirect quip about Lake Jackson via Buc-ees and the Aplin business. She said she wanted a truck stop because she couldn't leave it to the beavers. Our flags will be at half-staff in her honor until sunset Sept. 1.

On Wednesday, legendary country artist Dolly Parton celebrated the opening of Dolly's Tennessean Travel Stop in Cornersville, Tennessee - and poked fun at Texas-based competitor Buc-ee's.
