By providing technical assistance, funding and other resources to partners including federal, state and local agencies, private landowners, and especially non-profit conservation groups we have restored 2,500 acres of Gulf coast habitat, supported the development of dozens of public use facilities along the Texas coast, and permanently protected 24,030 acres of habitat in the U.S. In addition to t

he birds and other wildlife resources, coastal and tropical ecosystems protected by our programs provide services that support economies, public health and community resiliency.

A Huge Thank-You to Phillips 66!

Phillips 66 has continued their long-time support of our bird conservation programs this year with a significant donation! With their help, we are able to keep benefitting birds through avian research, habitat protection, and education.

We'd like to thank Phillips 66 for their generous donation and for believing in our mission of protecting birds along the Gulf Coast and beyond.

Memorial Day weekend means more people enjoying our beaches, but it is also an important time for nesting shorebirds. As you head out to the coast, remember to share the shore with the birds that call it home.

With rain and possible flooding in the forecast, nests and chicks may already be facing extra challenges. Shorebirds nest directly on the sand, making eggs and chicks incredibly difficult to spot. Even if weather moves nests around or changes the beach landscape, keep an eye out for posted nesting areas, eggs, resting birds, and tiny chicks that may be nearby.

You can help by:
🐦 Giving birds plenty of space
🐦 Respecting posted nesting areas and signs
🐦 Keeping pets away from nesting sites
🐦 Watching your step, especially near dunes and open sand

Small actions can make a big difference for birds trying to raise the next generation. Thank you for helping us protect nesting shorebirds this holiday weekend.

Spring migration is close to being over, but we still need your help! Make sure you're turning off household lights from 11pm - 6am until June 15th to reduce confusion and stress for migrating birds.

Bird window collisions are one of the largest human-caused threats to birds. Every year, over 1+ billion birds in the United States die after colliding with glass. Birds often see reflections of trees, sky, and habitat instead of a solid barrier, causing them to fly directly into windows.

The good news is that there's a solution to this problem! Bird collision tape and other bird safe window treatments help break up reflections and make glass visible to birds, reducing deadly strikes while still allowing you to see outside. Small changes at home, schools, and workplaces can save lives.

You can support GCBO by purchasing bird collision tape on our online shop: www.gcboshop.com

We just came back from two days of doing bird surveys at The Lodges at Lost Maples in Vanderpool, TX! What a fantastic place! If you ever want to get away from it all, and be surrounded by nature and birds… this is a great place to go. And not too far from Lost Maples State Natural Area as well.
Their cabins are wonderful with everything you need. Sitting on the back porch listening and seeing all the birds is amazing.
GCBO is grateful that they donated a stay to our Experience Auction last year, and hopefully again this year!

Happy World Migratory Bird Day! This year, we are celebrating the importance of citizen science and the idea that every observation matters. Whether you are new to birding or have years of experience, recording and sharing your observations through eBird, photography, social media, or any other platform can make a real difference for bird conservation.

Every sighting helps us better understand migration, track population changes, and protect important habitat for birds.

We encourage everyone to get outside, start observing, and connect with the birds around them today!

Yesterday was GCBO’s Upper Texas Coast experience auction led by our director Martin Hagne. Thank you Cee Cee for bidding and winning our auction trip and for supporting Bird conservation and GCBO! We truly appreciate you!

It was a fun day with good weather and great birds and we got to explore much of Bolivar Peninsula and a few sanctuaries in High Island. We had 80 species of birds for the day, even with going at a nice but steady pace! We even saw an American Flamingo! It was very far out at Rollover but it was there!

Thank you, Cee Cee for allowing Mary Lou and Nancy to join for a wonderful day of birding, photography, and exploring! And a great lunch! Thank you Nancy and Mary Lou for the bird pics!

Our next experience auction will be this coming November so stay tuned !!
