🚨 COOKE COUNTY BURN BAN REMAINS IN EFFECT 🚨

The Cooke County Burn Ban remains in effect until further notice for the unincorporated areas of Cooke County.

The original Burn Ban Order went into effect on August 10, 2026, and was adopted for a period of 90 days. The Cooke County Commissioners Court will periodically review conditions to determine whether circumstances continue to warrant the ban and may take action accordingly.

🔥 OPEN BURNING IS PROHIBITED in accordance with the Burn Ban Order and applicable law.

This includes:
• Burning brush
• Burning yard waste
• Open burning
• Other unauthorized outdoor fires

⚠️ Dry conditions and increased fire danger continue across Cooke County. Please use extreme caution with welding, machinery, vehicles, and other activities capable of producing sparks or heat.

This week is no joke! Obviously the news stations are warning about the heat…but if you look at our little part of Texas, the “fire danger” is extreme! With that being said, please take extra precautions to prevent sparks or heat that can cause grass fires. Welders: make sure you have an excess amount of water near your sites. Folks with trailers: make sure your chains are secured to your trucks and not dragging. Chefs: refrain from performing delicious outdoor bbqs. Smokers: if you don’t know by now how to properly extinguish your butts, I’m sure we can find a YouTube video or two to educate you!

In other words…be very fire-safe this week!

Daily thunderstorm chances will continue across portions of North Texas through midweek as weakening storm complexes move southeastward out of Oklahoma. A few storms may be strong, especially Monday, with gusty winds, frequent lightning, heavy rainfall, and localized flooding possible. Additional storm development cannot be ruled out during the afternoon along any lingering outflow boundaries.

Rain chances return on Sunday as scattered showers and storms are expected to form along a passing cold front. Strong wind gusts, as well as occasional lightning and heavy rain have a chance to derail any outdoor plans, so remain weather aware!

Scattered thunderstorms have developed across western portions of North and Central Texas. Widespread rainfall totals will vary between 1-3", however, isolated 6-8" of rain will be possible overnight. The location with the highest likelihood of experiencing 6-8" is generally west of I-35 and north of I-20. The bulk of the heavy precipitation will begin moving east prior to sunrise Sunday morning, however, a few scattered storms will continue along and east of I-35. Remember, Turn Around - Don't Drown!
