Wilsona School District

Wilsona School District The Wilsona School District has an enrollment of just over 1260 students from Transitional Kindergarten through Eighth Grade.

There are two elementary schools, Vista San Gabriel Elementary (TK-2nd), Wilsona Elementary (3rd -5th) and one middle school, Challenger Middle School (6th-8th). The District office is located on the Vista San Gabriel Elementary site. Currently, there are 65 teachers in the District and 140 support staff. The School District is managed by the Superintendent. The District covers approximately 100 s

quare miles in the northeast corner of Los Angeles County, although most of the region is uninhabited. 90% of the area’s population is located within 20 square miles. The community includes both unincorporated parts of Palmdale and Lancaster as well as Wilsona Gardens and Lake Los Angeles. The District boundaries reach Avenue J to the north, 255th to the east, Avenue S to the south and 142nd to the west. Our high school students attend the Antelope Valley High School District.

Happy Friday Wilsona families,

This is a reminder that there will be no school on Monday, September 7th in observance of Labor Day.

Labor Day is more than just the unofficial end of summer—it is a time to recognize and honor the countless contributions of American workers who have built and continue to strengthen our communities, industries, and nation. It is a day to celebrate the values of hard work, dedication, and perseverance that shape the opportunities we have today.

We encourage you to take this long weekend to rest, spend time with loved ones, and reflect on the importance of the day. Classes will resume on Tuesday, September 8th.

Happy Friday Wilsona families,

As we begin the month of September, we want to take a moment to remind our families about the importance of regular school attendance. Every school day is an opportunity for your child to learn, grow, build relationships, and make progress toward their goals.

Did you know that missing just two days of school each month can quickly add up to more than 20 missed days in a school year? When students are frequently absent or arrive late, they miss important instruction, classroom activities, and opportunities to stay connected with their teachers and classmates. Over time, these missed days can have a significant impact on academic achievement.

Establishing a pattern of regular attendance at a young age also helps children develop an important lifelong habit: showing up and being ready to learn. Consistent attendance supports academic success, confidence, responsibility, and a strong connection to school.

We know that perfect attendance is not always possible. Children get sick, families experience unexpected circumstances, and things happen. Our goal is not perfection—it is excellent attendance. We encourage every student to strive to miss no more than five days of school throughout the entire school year, whenever possible.
We ask our families to partner with us by making school attendance a priority. Please help your child arrive at school on time, ready to learn, every day. Every day matters, every lesson matters, and every student matters!

Al comenzar el mes de septiembre, queremos tomarnos un momento para recordarles a nuestras familias la importancia de la asistencia escolar regular. Cada día de clases es una oportunidad para que su hijo(a) aprenda, crezca, establezca relaciones y avance hacia sus metas.

¿Sabía que faltar solamente dos días de clases al mes puede sumar rápidamente más de 20 días de ausencia durante un año escolar? Cuando los estudiantes faltan con frecuencia o llegan tarde, pierden instrucción importante, actividades del salón de clases y oportunidades para mantenerse conectados con sus maestros y compañeros. Con el tiempo, estos días perdidos pueden tener un impacto significativo en su rendimiento académico.

Establecer un patrón de asistencia regular desde una edad temprana también ayuda a los niños a desarrollar un hábito importante para toda la vida: asistir a la escuela y estar preparados para aprender. Es una oportunidad para conectar, hacer preguntas y conversar sobre nuestra comunidad escolar.

Happy Friday Wilsona families,

As we wrap up our second week of school, I want to thank you for your continued support in helping us start the year strong. We know these first days set the tone for a successful year, and we appreciate your partnership.

With the extreme heat we’ve been experiencing, the safety and well-being of our students and staff has been our top priority. We have taken the following precautions to ensure everyone stays safe and comfortable:

• Adjusted outdoor activities – Recess and PE have been modified, shortened, or moved indoors when temperatures rise to unsafe levels.

• Additional hydration breaks – Teachers are providing more frequent water breaks, and we encourage students to bring water bottles daily.

• Cooled indoor spaces – Air-conditioned classrooms and designated cool-down areas are available for students and staff throughout the day.

• Please send your child with a refillable water bottle and light clothing.
I would like to invite our families to join us for Coffee with the Principal next Wednesday, August 26, 2026, at 9:00 a.m. at Vista San Gabriel School. This will be a wonderful opportunity to connect with our school community, hear about the exciting things planned for the new school year, and share ideas and information with our families.
Additionally, Mrs. Hammond will host her first Crafting with the Principal event on Friday, August 28, 2026, at 9:15 a.m. at Wilsona Elementary School. Families will have an opportunity to learn about the great things happening at Wilsona this year while enjoying some creative time together and making a fun craft to take home.
We hope to see many of our families at these upcoming events!
