As we head into another holiday season and throughout the year, we’re reminding everyone that drinking and driving is never worth the risk. Impaired driving can have life-changing consequences—not only for the person behind the wheel, but for passengers, pedestrians, other motorists, and families in our community…

🍺 If you drink, don’t drive.
🚗 Plan ahead for a sober ride.
📱 Use a designated driver.
🔑 Never get behind the wheel impaired.

Our officers will be working to keep the roads of Lake Lure safe and will take impaired driving seriously.

The Lake Lure Police Department is proud to welcome our newest officer, Joe Holden, to the team!

Joe is beginning his career in law enforcement, and we’re excited to have the opportunity to watch him grow and develop as an officer while serving the Lake Lure community.

Starting a career in law enforcement is a big commitment, and we’re proud that Joe has chosen to take that first step with the Lake Lure Police Department. We look forward to supporting him, training him, and helping him become the best officer he can be.

What year did you join the fire service?
I joined the fire service in 2006.
What department did you first join?
Glenwood Volunteer Fire Department.
What is one of your best memories working in the fire service?
One of my best memories is getting to respond to calls while growing up. I had the opportunity to respond alongside my dad, who was a member of Woodlawn-Sevier Volunteer Fire Department. Over the years, I’ve also made countless great memories and built lasting friendships with many outstanding firefighters.
If you could give advice to a new firefighter, what would it be?
Find a great mentor and learn from them. Seek guidance and direction from our Creator—He will open the right doors and provide wisdom and knowledge if you ask. Approach every job and every mission in a way that makes you proud, and respond to others' emergencies the same way you would want someone to respond to yours.
One quote that has always resonated with me is from Heraclitus:
"No man ever steps in the same river twice, for it's not the same river and he's not the same man."
Who has inspired you the most in the Rutherford County fire service?
There have been many people throughout the Rutherford County fire service who have inspired me. A few who stand out for different reasons are Ron Morgan, Jim Howell, and Buck Melski.
Day to day, I am inspired by the dedicated people I have the privilege of working alongside at Lake Lure Fire Department and our neighboring fire departments. I could not do what I do without their support, commitment, and teamwork.

Boys Camp Road Bridge Replacement - Anticipate Delays - Week of 8/3/26

Construction on the Boys Camp Road Bridge is underway. During the week of 8/3/26, please expect delays as the original bridge that was damaged is removed.

The new bridge will be adjacent to the existing temporary bridge. The temporary bridge will remain in use throughout the construction.

The contractor is NHM Constructors, LLC. The contract includes a 120-day completion timeline. Multiple factors that were beyond our control have impacted the timeline for this project, but we sincerely apologize for the delay in restoring the bridge. Thank you for your patience.

🐻 PUBLIC SAFETY NOTICE: Bear Encounters in the Town of Lake Lure

The Lake Lure Police Department reminds residents and visitors that black bears are common throughout our area. While bear sightings can be an exciting part of your mountain experience, it is important to remember that these are wild animals and should always be treated with caution and respect.

The Lake Lure Police Department works closely with the North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission when wildlife-related incidents occur. Your cooperation helps protect both our community and the bears that call these mountains home.

We appreciate your help in keeping Lake Lure safe. By respecting wildlife and following these simple safety practices, everyone can enjoy a safe and memorable visit to our beautiful town.

A big thank you to Lake Lure Baptist Church for inviting the Lake Lure Police Department to be part of your Community Block Party!

We were honored to have K-9 Officer Kortney Burrell and K-9 KODA demonstrate their narcotics detection capabilities while giving the community a closer look at the important role our K-9 team plays in keeping our community safe.

Thank you for your warm hospitality and for giving us the opportunity to connect with so many wonderful members of our community. We truly appreciate your support and look forward to participating again next year!

Roadwork on Lake Boulevard - 8/3/26 through 8/7/26 - Anticipate Delays: The Town of Lake Lure will be starting road work on Lake Boulevard on August 3, 2026 through 7, 2026.

The road will be partly closed at times so please anticipate delays. Crew members will be onsite helping move traffic in and out of the area during the road work.
